Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

This thread is already looking exactly like I said it would after a few games with Newhook. 😂
He surprised the hell out of me in game one, I actually predicted he would struggle to get on the score sheet at all until next year because he’s playing with him and that people would start to freak out because of the insane expectations they put on him.

No one can play with Newhook. Nobody. It is not a coincidence. Suzuki and Caufield had him on their line for a little over 120+ even strength minutes in the first half of the season and it’s a miracle they were even able to get one goal and zero assists out of him during that time.
Demidov is playing with him, as a rookie, thrown right into the playoffs, against Ovechkins top seed Capitals.

I am not judging a single game from Demidov until next season when we have an actual Center for him to play with. Anything else right now is just a bonus, and in his case, a really unfortunate punishment to start his career here.

Bah, Demidov is clearly a rookie out there. I wouldn't blame Newhook at all right now.
Fresh off the plane into the NHL playoffs, isn't exactly a welcoming arrival at a higher level of play.
Do we need a center? Of course, but Demidov has a lot of progression ahead of him as well.

Nobody is melting down, nobody is panicking.

If you put Mario Lemieux with Laine and Newhook, maybe he gets 10 goals a season.

Laine is no longer NHL player on a decent team. I thought that maybe, just maybe he can be at least AHL level, but nope. He is literally worse the Dagenais...who at the time I named "ice grazer". If you passed him the puck, he could score, but he literally didn't know what to do on the ice.

Newhook is a complimentary player with very limited use.

That is not a line. That is a black hole where the puck goes to commit suicide.

Free advice that SMarty will never take...

Bench Laine and bring in Beck. It will improve the line from ECHL level to at least NHL 4th line level.

But what do I know....

Laine is not a NHL player? What are you drinking. Can I have some?
He's still close to point per game. He's just not a first liner.

Americans think we're a bunch of hicks.....Canadians think Americans are stupid....everyone does it with the generalizations it's not that serious. Especially hockey generalizations of all things
 
Aaaaah yes, the notoriously lacking in drive...checks notes....Russians

Anywho, really looking forward to the rest of this young star's career, hope we find the right linemates for him because we definitely don't have that ATM. I coiuld see Dach working because they're both excellent at maintaining possession, just need a LW sniper.
 
Well we certainly haven't seen much from Demidov after that incredible first 10 minutes. He is going to need time and space at this young point in his career. The playoffs are smothering and it'll be tough for him to find his ground.

Get him on PP1 where we can let him use his creativity with a little more space.

He is highly intelligent and will find a way to make an impact (even without PP1 time) by the end of the series, I have no doubt.

Also, hilarious last night when he came face to face with Ovi. Refused to look the big alpha in the eye. It's like my dog when he's being a bad boy.

Quite a step up passing from KHL to NHL playoffs. He was not ready for the pace of the game. Valuable experience acquired for Demidov. He should have a stronger second game. Tough to play on Newhook line , he cant win a faceoff.
