Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

I think he could go pointless and I would not be mad as it's a great learning experience for him. That being said, he is clearly not a north/south type of player, it's obvious he should be entering the zone with the puck on his line and not Newhook who just dump it or Laine that basically lose the puck all the time and is slow. He would also need to play with more cerebral player than Newhook. Also Laine is also not a good fit for him, although a goal scorer Laine never go in front the net or use his size. The best linemates would be Slafkovsky or Armia with Evans as a center.

do people really think Demidov would be our savior in playoffs?

I mean Demidov is clearly adjusting to the speed of the NHL. You can literally see him absorbing information in real time as if he's trying to remember something from practice in terms of covering guys. Then when he has the puck he shows his talent. The Caps aren't giving him any breathing room so it's going to be a learning experience. I'm sure being upended without the puck in the most blatant interference non-call I've seen will make him pissed going into game 2.

It was pretty obvious he was not going to be coming over and immediately be at the peak of his career. Especially with Newhook and Laine.

A 19-year-old playing in his third NHL game against the team with the second best record in the league in the first game of the playoffs on a team that barely squeeked in is not dominating? I'm not worried yet.

we're one playoff game into Demidov's career and it's already "as a generalization Russians are lazy" 🙄
Who’s saying that?

Every nation is well represented by players who care and some that don’t.

Sounds more like Don Cherry era statements that Swedes are soft.

We are the youngest team EVER to be in a playoff….the deer in the headlights effect was on full display last night and was fully expected.

Losing, winning, getting run over is all part of the growth process for our little cubs, anyone losing their mind over what happened last night are in complete delusion and denial and really don’t have a grasp on the reality of what it takes to be a championship team.

The fact that they fought back and brought it to OT is a miracle and important lessons in becoming alpha in this league.

Thought Struble looked a little lost last night, I’d dress Xhekaj for next game, I’m sure he’s chomping at the bit to lay down some law!!

Drive is something that as a generalization Russians struggle with. Ovy quit on his team regularly in the playoffs when the team got down in a game or series in his early years.
Wrong….man, gotta stay respectful here but I really disapprove with this

Anyone quitting on their team is not a I’m a Russian, or Finn, or Slovak thing, it’s a you thing.

Federov, Datsyuk, Kucherov, Vasilevski are but a few Russians that have led their teams to championships….and there are many more!

He needs to be on PP1 at some point, move someone to the point and get MM on PP2. Kids a stud, not worried. It’s the ploffs, things are much tighter , new league the best in the world. Trial by fire

I told you guys that Guy Lafleur took 3 years to figure it out and become a star, but you were too busy tracking flights and watching airport videos.

Demidov got a taste of playoff hockey which is different than anything he saw in the motherland. He will need time to figure it out. It's too bad we don't have a 1B version of Suzuki for him to play with. Laine and Newhook are just doing their own thing, whatever that is lol.

St.Louis is in his third year of professional coaching... zero experience in juniors, zero in the AHL. Went from Pee-Wee to the NHL.

If NHL playoffs are tough for a generational talent like Demidov, i can't imagine what it is like for an inexperienced mediocre coach

Yeah and he's on a disfunctional line. Anything he brings is gravy.

Next year we'll get him some help.

St Louis can only use what the GM gives him but he does have one guy sitting who could help the cause and I want to see him playing game 2.

Stop being reasonable. That's not how things are discussed on this forum.
