Player Discussion Ivan Demidov: Welcome to Montreal

Looks a lot like Hutson.
Only bigger, more powerful skating and a better shot.

They may not be MacKinnon and Makar, but they are going to be the drivers of this team for a long time. Add Hage, Beck , Fowler, Davidson, Tuch, Florian, Harris, etc. and you have the makings of contender. And maybe more.

You forgot Engstrom 😅

This kid has landed in probably the most perfect location to be one of the faces of the NHL. He is the talk of the league today. If he matches the hype given to him, he is setting up to be the most popular player in the NHL. Montreal is crazy on a level no other fan base can match. Not corporate Toronto and not any of the other original 6 teams or Canadian teams. He has the charisma. He has the stage. If he becomes a Kucherov level talent -- the NHL is his.

Against Chicago Blackhawks: 🏒🍎⏳✅

Against San José Sharks: 🏒🍎⏳

Against Anaheim Ducks: 🏒🍎⏳

Against Columbus Blue Jackets: 🏒🍎⏳

The best part of his first NHL game? There some confusion when we entered the Hawk's zone, before his assist to Newhook. He took control after a picosecond of hesitation and created the play. Chew slowly... its the good stuff!
Super that you said this :D

I had a thought like "oh man if this were nhl 25, id be all over that spot that just opened" and he did and made a pass on a goal. Considering i had an eagle's view (both in the game and on the videogame) and he did this in real time, i thought was impressive.

The kid's got it for sure. He looked a little gassed by the end of the game, but he created something every time he was on the ice. "What the hell did we just pick up?" is what i was thinking.

Imagine him gelling with Hutson, both in their primes.

I thought Newhook looked very good beside Demidov. Agree with your there. Newhook is a burner and processes the game at a high level. He just can't finish. Sometime one player can unlock another one (see MacKinnon and Lehks).

I want to see this experiment carry on for a lot longer.
Demi may make a 2nd C out of newhook yet :D

Wouldn't that be something if Demidov turned Newhook into a 60 point speedy centre. I can honestly see it happen.
The problem is that many here complain about what Newhook isn’t and are blind to what he is. As one of the faster forwards in the league, Newhook’s speed will open up the ice even more for Demidov.

Newhook is on pace to score 82 goals a season playing with Demidov. Unfortunately, for some here, even that wouldn’t be enough.

Just joking to make a point.

I want nothing more, but to me - aside from `Newhook taking faceoffs, it looked more to me as if Demidov was the center. He was definitely leading the play.

You hit the nail on the head here...............open up the ice so Demidov can do his thing, and really vice versa.
Newhook has amazing speed, and if these two can figure out how to give and go, we are in great shape.

Demidov thinks the game, at a high speed......he will create a lot of offense, no matter who is in the middle.
Newhook, at least can keep up with him.......not sure what to think about Laine at this point, but the open ice out there because of Newhook and Demidov, could help Laine be free for better shot selection.

That's what a playdriver winger ala Nikita Kucherov makes you believe. Demidov doesn't need to be a center to be effective. Just give him a 2-way center like Suzuki, Aho, Point, Horvat, Lundell, Cirelli, etc. and let him create his magic.

Regardless I think they may complement eachother quite nicely. Will be interesting moving forward.

This shouldn't be the plan. They need to run third line around Dach and Newhook, get a legit 2C for Demidov who he can turn into a PPG one.

Atleast that's what I'd try to do for next season.

I agree. However......I would still like to see how these two look together for a greater sample after that first game.

Having Dach, Newhook and Heinemen together on the third line could be unreal with Heinemens shot.

Newhook's speed is amazing and he clearly created space for Demidov BUT his offensive skills are those of a 3rd liner. He just doen't have the finish to complete the setups he'll be seeing every night.

I really think the plan should be this for next season:

Caufield Suzuki Slaf
Laine ????? Demi
???? Newhook Dach

But we'll see how things go. I just don't think Newhook has the skill to play with someone like Demidov.

Need a center good on Faceoff and solid defensively. Guy Boucher was saying how this is important to have a player good in faceoff. Cause if your centermann
lose the faceoff, their entire line need to retrieve the puck and expense a lot of energy to do it. You lose sometimes 20 secondes just to try to get back the puck.
I will try to get a guy over 50% faceoff and solid defensively. Like Horvat, Duchene, Zacha, Oreilly..
