Prospect Info: Ivan Demidov (2024 5th OA): SKA St. Petersburg (KHL)

Trevor Timmins probably still has PTSD from drafting Andrei Kostistsyn instead of Jeff Carter, Dustin Brown, Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler, Corey Perry, etc. you know, your typical North American kid with huge size and scoring instincts.

Him going with Cayden Lindstrom is absolutely not surprising knowing his past failures. We should thank Andrei Kostitsyn that Ivan Demidov fell to the Habs :teach:

Sorry, but Andrei Kostitsyn was worth a gamble.

He had natural talent in spades.

An Andrei Kostitsyn who would have put it all together would be a Kovalev-like player.

Getzlaf overachieved versus his draft pedigree. Obviously today you pick Getzlaf but hindsight is 20/20.

Carter had a good career but he had his own problems. It's not like he was a franchise center.

Agreed.

And Kostitsyn was trending well until a concussion in the 2009 season. Afterwards he never recovered.

A lot of posters underestimate the impact of injuries on development, for example we see posts saying that Juulsen was a bad pick.

Juulsen was cursed. Wasn't he hit by the puck in the same spot on the face two games in a row one time?

Kostitsyn was a tank. His raw ability was very apparent and he looked pretty good with kovalev and plekanec. I also wonder how much the concussion the following season affected him.

I miss the times where a gif would be created using something absurd and cropping in the face with a « Paint » like software. It had a lot of heart and art in it.

Not pointing you out Kenner, just yelling at clouds and the emptiness of AI.

I still and always shoop old school and never use AI. AI offers more possibility though, but it's just too damn fun doing it old school. I often find myself chuckling while I do it. "Oooh this' gonna be funny lol :naughty: "

Ya exactly!

Bourque’s Maracas And martial arts Gionta where piss in my pants funny. The Foxhole metal Kazakh dancing was absolute gold mines too.

i'd like to think if we didn't draft his brother, Andrei would have been fine.

He was coming off a 26-goal season and was dominant in preseason before he got caught admiring his pass. We all said to ourselves that Andrei had arrived and he was going to become a star. Unfortunately, injury and off-ice stuff may have derailed his career.

It's crazy how easily AI "art" is identifiable. As soon as i see one i'm like that's AI.

I still hate that we compare it with Michkov's freebie vacation stats lol

They look 'identical' on the surface just as KHL stats but
You put Michkov on SKA instead and he doesn't get 40 pts (attitude being a factor mostly)
And you put Demidov on Sochi instead with all the same opportunities and he most likely trounces Michkovs 40 there

So yeah, I 'get it' n everything but I still hate it lol

Not my #'s so take with some salt, but I found this floating around the internet

The numbers have been similar all season, they are legit.

Anybody who doesn't look at this and realize they are witnessing the greatest U20 season in KHL history, doesn't have their head on straight. Look at Kaprizov's D+1 at the same age! with 5 mins more per game! 13 pts behind! Incredible.

...Juulsen was a bad pick; not because of his play but because he already had a history of head injuries, iirc...

I don’t know, that incident with the cops seems like someone who may have had bigger problems than just falling into the wrong crowd.

For all his gym rat hype it barely showed on the ice over a 4 year period. Just like Cammy.

I don’t think MB did a great job with our players and it’s probably the biggest strike against him but I don’t know if what happened in AZ and Galch’s precipitous fall from grace could be really blamed on MB. No one likes Gallagher but he didn’t end up a borderline psychopath
the difference is jarring in our drafting since Hugo came aboard. It's clear they are only drafting "good character" guys, not to be confused with "Karakter" which (under MB regime) means the kid has the potential to bust peoples balls, party on Thursday nights and clip toenails at the tavern.
