My biggest issue with Ekholm, is that we either have to expose Lauzon, we would only be able to protect 4 forwards. Bergeron, Marchand, Pasta Coyle. So exposing Ritchie, Frederic, Smith and DeBrusk. It seems to me that you need to evaluate the expansion cost value differential and then include it in any trade proposal as part of the trade. I believe Dom referred to a 3 way trade including the Kraken. I like the idea, but I am concerned it will cost us a 2nd to let them take Zboril/Grezclyk and that to me is an extra 2nd in the Ekholm trade.

You raise a legitimate concern but I feel that Ekholm is such a significant addition that you have to pull the trigger if the chance comes to acquire him. Regarding Lauzon, no way I lose him to Seattle, he is part of this team going forward, that's up to Sweeney to swing something.

Jojo and moving Donato for Coyle. Good moves. I didn't realize Donato was with the Sharks.

Bad move was not resigning Jojo.
Jojo might be available at deadline if Minnesota is still out of the playoffs. Bjustad I think is ufa as well and could make a nice pick up

They brought in Halak
And let go of Kudobin...The same Kudobin who started in the Stanley last year....That said, Bringing in a backup, is a non impact move, which we saw VS Tampa last year. I will move on off the subject,
Your response shows the pitifullness of the regime. Thanks and i do enjoy reading your stuff.

Thought the Nash was extremely risky - his decline in play, poor playoff performances, and concussion history made me wary of the deal. He played okay up until the concussion.

Yes it was risky, but it was an aggressive move to land a player that could have really helped out had he not got rung. That's all. Sweeney has made some efforts at the TDL to improve the team. Not always great, but I believe he has done enough to not just suppose that he can't or won't make a move.

That's fine. But normally Ekholm costs DeBrusk, Vaakainainen and a 1st. Your point is that you don't mind tossing an additional second at Seattle to not take Lauzon so add that to the tag and remember we still lose, Grezlyck or Zboril, meanging we no longer have that vaunted depth on D. I am not against this, but it seems to me that it is an extremely expensive year to be a buyer, and I might just prefer to ride this out on D or to target a UFA on a cheaper deal. At forward I think we have much more leeway to make a deal and protect the new player.

I’ve already resigned myself to Ekholm going to MTL.

Who cares? People say he's underrated, but I say he's overrated. Dude struggled the last year and a half, especially when asked to anchor the second pair in Nashville with a younger player. He's supposed to fetch a number one price tag without ever having been a number one? Yeah, f*** that noise. He's been bad for a while now and he's hurt again. Hard pass on this guy because of the price and injury history.

No reason why the Bruins can't address both a top 4 defenseman and a top 6 forward, for once we have the cap space and flexibility with the expiring contracts of Krejci and Rask. To acquire a scoring winger we may have to part with Debrusk, but I am ok with that as I just don't think he will pan out as a top 6 winger with Boston.

Lauzon - McAvoy
Ekholm - Carlo
Grz/Zboril - ???

One of Grz/Zboril would be taken by SEA, so you'd still have the other. Ahcan and Wolff are both LHD's, Zech is a LHD (under contract with Providence). Ekholm will be 31? when his contract is up, so what if he signs a 3-4yr extension to stay in Boston? suddenly you have less need for LHD.

If that Matthew Tkachuk rumor is real then that's the guy I want right there.

edit: Rumor has been removed from the trade forum so must not be legit.

anyone having difficulty coming into this thread since AOF's passing? I've been more effected by his passing than I would have thought, given the nature of being "strangers" on the Internet. Life sucks sometimes.
Have to say, even though having not met many here outside of the Internet, that it was definitely a shock seeing his passing, and this place definitely lost a great contributor (whether people agreed with him or even read every word of his post). He was passionate and definitely had his own unique view of the team and what the should do.

(sorry, also didn't mean to hijack any other conversations, just wanted to respond to your note).

The more I think about it, Palmieri doesn't move the needle much for me. Ekholm, 100%
If we're really looking for a top 6 winger for Krejci and Ritchie, I'd look to go bigger.

2021 group of UFA's for Boston, you have to look at who's coming back and what the cost will be and who's walking, plus who'd be replacing them?

You have Backes coming off the books, we definitely have some room to add a substantial player here. Everyone has alluded to it as a pipedream, but how good would Kane look on this squad?
Your top 6 is
Marshy-Bergy-Pasta
Debrusk-Krejci-Kane

That top 6 plus McAvoy/Carlo/Ekholm/Lauzon as a core 4 makes us Cup contenders for this year and two more, granted we re-sign Tuuka and Krejci.

It's a pipedream, and guys like @DominicT are right that we should be focusing on Palmieri but for once it'd be nice to go out and land that big fish!

The forward market this offseason is very deep, particularly at forward. Landeskog/Hall/Hoffman/RNH/Palmieri/Tatar just to name a few.

As for Kane, unless we offer McAvoy in the package we don't have much to offer. Contrary to what Felger and Mazz say, I doubt teams would give us Crosby or Kane for a mediocre pu pu platter of Frederic, DeBrusk, Vaak, Zboril, and 2 1sts. For teams looking to deal top-tier players, it will be very easy for them to get offers that beat what we can throw out.
