For the record I do think Forsberg is the perfect winger for Krejci. I would give up what it takes for that player in a heartbeat IMO he still has upside.

That is just an assumption on your part. And assumptions are not based on anything factual.
Out of curiosity has anyone reported how much rope Poile has in Nashville?

Is he steering them through a rebuild or is he clearing deadweight to reload for next season?

I know he’s been around forever but every manager has a shelf life.

He is safe. Heard an interview with ownership and he sounded genuine
Thanks man. I hadn’t read anything.

Their whole team seems to be underperforming. Gotta think Hynes might be looking over his shoulder a bit no? Seemed like a weird hiring from the get go. Especially after his run in Jersey

Dom, In your opinion, what do you think the B's need more out of Dman Like Ekholm or a secondary scoring winger?

Also, what type of package it would take to get either or both please.

TIA
You would be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of the Bruins defence but Ekholm would be a big upgrade.

That said, I'd rather not get into the what do they need more debate. I will leave that up to the people that actually make the decisions.

how does Debrusk warrant a change of scenery?

you just signed him to an extension not that long ago

and no trade of a 1st round pick....

The extension was a "prove it to me" deal on behalf of Sweeney, IMO. His agent was very delusional and talking a big game about how they weren't going to take a discount, and Sweeney wasn't comfortable giving him a long-term deal, IMO. Ultimately, Sweeney didn't overpay in years and dollars and there was no market out there for an offer sheet. Either Jake raises his game and becomes more consistent (in which case, they'll extend him again), or if he is a passenger and/or not very productive, which has been the case for most of this season, he'll be easy to trade since he'll only have 1 year left. Very smart on behalf of Sweeney. It wouldn't be like trying to move the Beleskey or Backes contract.

how many 1st rounders have been dealt by this organization knowing your core is 35+, AND aging, if not injury prone, as Pastrnak and Marchand almost didn't make it to opening night, and the litany of issues around your newly elected Captain in Bergeron
One guy is 35. No injury issues. Charlie Mac is big part of our core

Yes but you put enough there they jump.Lets be honest here.Boston never does nearly enough at deadline. Its time to take a true run at this thing.

I haven’t always been a fan of the trade deadline activity or lack thereof from this management team but a couple of thoughts...

First we can’t claim to know all they they’ve put out there in an effort to land a piece at the deadline. It takes two to make a deal...and there are other factors that affect closing a deal, and additionally there’s still that requisite eye on the future to consider.

Still, last 3 years saw:
2020 - Ritchie and Kase in, while unloading Backes

2019 - Marcus Johansen and Coyle

2018 - Nash and Wingels

maybe not the huge splash many would like but these deals were overall improvements in the playoff roster at the time, made sense both long and short term (so far) and were made without burning major assets. I thought the 2019 moves were excellent and they still felt short to a team they were superior to.

Not knowing what other offers were made, or what asks were being made by other teams, I view this with a little sense of Sometimes the deals that didn't get made are probably good “avoided deals”.

I hear you on the sentiment of going all in for that piece that takes the team from contender to favorite, but I just don’t think those deals happen often league wide and it think that’s because the price is often prohibitive when considering all factors. Mortgaging the future and still falling short to me is a pretty horrible outcome.

Problem with that and obviously nothing we can do about it anyway. But the problem with that is those in charge have simply not done the job of completing the team since they took charge. Other them McAvoy who was pretty much a layup where he was picked.....This regime has not bought a world class player into the team in over 5 years now. Bergeron, Krejci, Rask, Marchand, Pasta.....The teams nucleus, are all from the previous regime.....If in five years Plus now....As the ones in charge, they have not been able to help that cup winning nucleus.....I have to question their competance for the roles they have. I mean, really nothing has been accomplished here in five years other then the natural progression of stars aging and a few draft choices panning out.........A monkey could have pointed to names on a sheet of paper....and been in the same place we are now. Truth is we need both An upgrade of a top pairing Dman and a wing for Krejci who is pyhsical and create space much like Horton did. We have all see that work before. All this regime has done was let a Stanley cup nucleus....Rot and age without helping it win......AND, they all took sweet team friendly deals to help management only to get no help. I think it is sad what has happened here...But one mans opinion means only to one man.

The more I think about it, Palmieri doesn't move the needle much for me. Ekholm, 100%
If we're really looking for a top 6 winger for Krejci and Ritchie, I'd look to go bigger.

2021 group of UFA's for Boston, you have to look at who's coming back and what the cost will be and who's walking, plus who'd be replacing them?
PlayerStatus2021 Salary2022 Salary (Projected)Replacement
KrejciUFA $ 7,250,000 $ 6,000,000
RaskUFA $ 7,000,000 $ 6,000,000
HalakUFA $ 2,500,000 Vlader/Swayman

You have Backes coming off the books, we definitely have some room to add a substantial player here. Everyone has alluded to it as a pipedream, but how good would Kane look on this squad?
Your top 6 is
Marshy-Bergy-Pasta
Debrusk-Krejci-Kane

That top 6 plus McAvoy/Carlo/Ekholm/Lauzon as a core 4 makes us Cup contenders for this year and two more, granted we re-sign Tuuka and Krejci.

It's a pipedream, and guys like @DominicT are right that we should be focusing on Palmieri but for once it'd be nice to go out and land that big fish!

Are you sure we have room to add a substantial player? Right now looking at CF, Boston has around $29.5 million in cap space for next year. The signings above leave you with around $7.5 million in cap space and that doesn't include Ekholm at $3.75. I'm not sure how you're fitting Kane and Ekholm into this line-up and I can't even begin to imagine what throwing Kane into the mix does for Boston's cap when guys like Ekholm, Bergeron, McAvoy, DeBrusk and Lauzon need new deals.
