You don't think the value of those assets has been driven into the ground because he went public with that? That is something you say in private, unless the motivation is to screw your team..... :sarcasm:

1. He never said it publicly. That info came out from other people such as Friedman.
2. That info would've eventually become public anyways when reports come out that the jets are talking trades regarding Dubois.

Like drouin before him, too many Habs fans overrate him because he is Quebecois français. Not saying he sucks or a bad player but he is not likely going to suddenly become a 100 point or even point per game player year in and year out from joining the habs.
It's a funny thing that mostly all the comments of this particular thread about Dubois, are telling how he's overrated because he's québécois , not that good, that he won't be the 100 points guy the Québec fans see in him, a shitty attitude, referencing to Drouin...

where are those fans you are talking about ? were are those comments overrating Dubois , telling he's a 100 points producer ?

If you're Winnipeg, are you even going to entertain the half assed offer from the habs, knowing that teams will definitely overpay for a top 6 center rental at the tdl?

I wouldn't. And I think trading for him is dumb. The first player that openly says he wants to play for Montreal in ages and we want to trade for him instead of waiting for him or others in ufa.

No we can't do this...

This will cut the @sampollock post count in half lol, just joking Sammy.

In all seriousness - YES, acquire the man.

Why? He has more points than Suzuki this year, and has played in 7 fewer games, and we all agree that Suzuki is our best all around forward. If you can add a guy, who would automatically become your de Facto top forward and top Center then you do it... Yesterday. Especially considering all of the context that surrounds PLD and his desire to play for the Habs, his contract situation and Montreal's ability to leverage Winnipeg in a deal, and our own need. Not to mention, we haven't had a true number one center in almost 3 decades.

Size - PLD adds it, he's a 6'3, 220 lb man and he isn't shy about playing physical. He uses his frame effectively and we desperately need some size/grit in our forward group. We have far too many wallflowers and small/scrappy guys that never win enough battles to make a difference when games get physical. I've yet to see a team win a cup that didn't have a Big talented center playing big minutes offensively and defensively.

Takes the burden off of Suzuki/Caufield - We are a one line team. If that line isn't scoring, than the Montreal Canadiens aren't scoring. Cole Caufield is tied for second in overall points still, and he's only played 46 games!!! Dach is third in points and he's played 55! It would be laughable if it wasn't so sad.... You put PLD in there, and all of a sudden, now there's two lines to worry about, two groups that can burn you in different ways. That means you can't load up only against one, matchups get easier because we are deeper. Suzuki becomes more of a threat. Caufield gets more open ice. It's a domino effect, in a positive way. Imagine having TWO good lines? A 1A and a 1B? It is possible, even for the Habs in this post modern dystopian lack of offensive capability era.

And can you imagine what kind of a team we'd have if we somehow won the lottery for Bedard or ended up with a guy like Adam Fantilli?

PLD isn't going to make this team a cup contender overnight, there will still be some pieces needed to be acquired either through trade or the draft, but he certainly helps expedite the rebuild by filling a major hole in our current roster composition. For once, we are in the driver's seat when it comes to a player wanting to be here, and I don't think we should waste the opportunity. I'd rather have a known quantity and top notch young player in PLD at 25 (and in his prime), than some magic beans and a hope and a prayer that some player we draft somehow is able to become as good as PLD in a few years time.

Just my 0.02$

I am not sure at 100% , but i think that it was at first his agent that said that he wouldn't re-sign with the Jets . Then someone asked him if Dubois would like to play for the Habs and his agent answered that , of course yes , he would.

I could be absolutely wrong on this, but i think that this was what have been turned into a " Dubois only wants to play for the CH ". Dubois never said that .

But...........he has stated he wants to come to Montreal...................or is that the franco media making stuff up?
How many kids want to play for Montreal? 99% of homegrown talent wants nothing to do with the habs.
Something that needs to change, but we should ask our HF gang as to why this happens?
Who cares? Honestly. He’s not the answer and he’s just eat cap space that they’ll need for someone game changing down the road. The only fans that care about having someone good on their team born from that same place is Montreal. It’s stupid. Quebec supremacy over winning. What French players are even out there lol

More than that? Who was the last PPG guy we had, Kovalev? And before that?

He'd instantly be the best C we've had in 30 years!
And not top ten for nhl first line centres in the NHL. I don’t care who was a point per game it didn’t work and neither will he

everything i have read about the way he's working hard, has a great attitude and implicated in the games in Winnipeg. I don't understand how/why all those journalists, commentators or analysts could all have been wrong about his shitty attitude . Pro medias are so wrong compared to people from this forum
Even if he was an angel he’s still not worth what 8-9 million? Nope

He's very overhyped but it's a case where the Habs do not have a lot of talent upfront. And physical skilled forwards do not grow on trees and he wants to come here. Dubois is like signing Horvat in a way. Talented but they are not franchise guys but it adds a good weapon to your line-up.
If we wait for the very best player possible, we won't have anyone. 32 teams, some of them have beaches, golf par 365 days a year, lower taxes. Montreal is just lucky a player like PLD lands here. Horvat was wanted on this forum and he's somewhere else, like always. 10 years ago we had Kovalev. After that : zero.

Did we lost our memory? When was the last time a talented and big center is traded/or signed here?
The answer is Dach 22, also Damphousse in 92 and Smith in '85, Peter Mahovlich in 72, Béliveau in 53. Well, is it exagerated if I say we rarely have good tall centers here. Every 30 years? We are not the NY Rangers.

Hughes mentioned making another trade to speed up the rebuild. I think some folks automatically thought of Dubois, and understandably so.

I wonder if he might look to a younger player who was drafted ~ 3 years prior, like Dach when he was acquired. It also qualifies as speeding up the rebuild.

Let’s see … 2020 draft …. Laffy?
9th in scoring on the rangers, needs a new contract, Gorton connection, Fortier (agent) connections to Habs (drafted by Habs, represents J Roy, Beck, MP Poulin). Just connecting the dots.

Laffy - Suzuki - Caufield
Slaf - Dach - Michkov

Two balanced lines regardless of how you mix and match.
PLD is Dach in 3 years of progression. PLD have just enough NHL experience to be at his peak for the next 6 years, he's an instant improvement. Bang. He's already much much better than Suzuki. PLD last 3 years : -6, -6, +2. Suzuki last 3 years -5, -29, -11.

Suzuki have trouble. I like him but he's not constant at all. He's not big enough and he doesn't skate faster than average. PLD is big, like Dach, he brings a physical presence/game Suzuki doesn't bring. Habs would be an improved team if they have different type of players and if they can be tall and strong at center. We need size with skills desperatly.

Dach has to be a center!

It would be blasphemy playing him on the wing with all the tools he has.
I want 3 strong centers. PLD, Suzuki and Dach.
Lets's say 50 games PLD is #1, 32 games Suzuki is #1. Dach will manage his trio 3rd center.
Suzuki will play a lot on PP. Habs have enough wingers to fill lines 1 - 2 - 3. The 4th line can look good with the rest.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
Winnipeg will expect a kings ransom, that won't change.
Winnipeg got Pionk and a 20th overall for Trouba that only wanted to play in New York area (a.k.a rangers)

Our Florida pick + Harris and perhaps Mesar since he looks horrendous

So they get a mid first round
a dman that can play NHL
and another late 1st pick

and we extend on trade.

Also 6 wingers, at least 4 good and 2 acceptable. 4th line is for Armia, Gallagher and a C.
Dvorak will still be here so he would be your 4th line center and pushing Evans on the wing...

Suzy
PLD
Dach
Dvorak

Down the middle would probably be the best center line in the league

Pretty sure Dvorak would be heading the other way in a PLD deal, the Jets will need a center, and Dvorak gives them an option as a number two or three center who can be decent at both ends. Plus some salary would have to be going back.
