If Det and MTL keep winning at a similar rate, we could see them bump FLA and TB out of A2 and A3. That would kinda kill the wild card drama because it would put FLA and TB in WC1 and WC2 then a big gap.
That would be the most Leafish outcome, finally win the division and get the Panthers 1st round.

Edit: maybe they won't catch the Panthers, for some reason I thought they were sitting at 52 points

It's playoff-style games down to game 82 it seems. There were so many great games yesterday and the standings keep getting tighter. A bad week can take you out of the race pretty quickly.

Another storyline is the Canadian teams. Ottawa and Montreal could realistically end up 7th and 8th in the east while Calgary and Vancouver end up 7th and 8th in the west.

Toronto, Winnipeg and Edmonton are virtual locks for the playoffs.

We could have all 7 Canadian teams in the playoffs this year. Or just 3. But all 7 are at least competing.

Habs won't make play offs. Recent hot streak has been good. (won 7 of last 13)
Log jam is more a result of so many 3 point games. How much of a gap do we really expect after 45 games?

I agree with you but it's been like this forever lol. Not saying that's a reason we shouldn't change it, but we should be used to it by now.

Right now there's 12 points separating the 12 teams in the middle. Every game matters, it's really exciting. Games are already being played like they're playoff games

I'd say Rangers get in as having a different level roster than most of these teams.

One of the top 6 will slide and at least end up in serious danger even if they squeeze in eventually.

Talent wise and how much better they've been playing defensively they have a decent shot. But they dug themselves a hole and it feels like offensively literally every player has fallen off a cliff. But they went from worst team in NHL history to boring defensive team. At least their defense is good now when before everything was terrible.
