Why would Dobson be available?
Hockey pundits/experts are predicting that this year's trade deadline will be a sellers' market for those who are willing to unload a top 4 Dmen.
The theory is that the demand will be high but the supply will be short. Not only will there be plenty of playoff and contending teams looking to add top 4Dmen but it sounds like there are rebuilding teams like Mtl who also want to add.
This would be a great year for those selling a top 4 dmen and the return should be significant compared to other years.
Having said that, which big name top 4 Dmen will be available?
*DISCLAIMER - not all of these guys are top 4 guys I'm strictly choosing teams who I believe could miss, and have guys available with less than 2 years on their deal.
My guess for defenders that will be on the market if these teams:
From Eastern Conference Teams:
Pittsburgh - Marcus Pettersson, Matt Grzelcyk
Columbus - Ivan Provorov, Eric Gudbranson?, Jack Johnson
Montreal - David Savard
Philadelphia - Eric Johnson
+ maybe
NYI - Mike Reilly
Detroit - Ben Chiarot, Jeff Petry, Olli Maatta
Ottawa - Travis Hamonic
Buffalo - Connor Clifton, Henri Jokiharju
From Western Conference Teams
Anaheim - Cam Fowler?? (unlikely), Brian Dumoulin, Urho Vaakanainen
Chicago - Connor Murphy??, Alec Martinez
Seattle - Jamie Oleksiak??, Josh Mahura, William Borgen
SJ - Cody Ceci, Jan Rutta,
+ maybe
Calgary - Rasmus Andersson?? (unlikely), Tyson Barrie
LA - Vladislav Gavrikov, Andreas Englund
Minnesota - Jacob Middleton, Zach Bogosian, John Merrill
St Louis - Nick Leddy, Ryan Suter
Utah - Ian Cole, Robert Bortuzzo
What would Seattle want for Adam Larsson?Hockey pundits/experts are predicting that this year's trade deadline will be a sellers' market for those who are willing to unload a top 4 Dmen.

They just extended him. I think if they were going to move out a defenseman, it would be Borgen as a rental, with a SMALL chance of also moving Oleksiak. Dunn Montour Larsson Evans aren't going anywhere IMO.What would Seattle want for Adam Larsson?
By the deadline he'll have his 1k games as a Duck (barring injury between now & then). I can easily see him being willing to waive if it's to a true contender. He knows very well who's coming up the pipeline behind him.Reports are that Fowler is open to going beyond his NTC to facilitate a trade.
I expect him to be moved at the deadline.
There's rumblings out of Vancouver that Allvin and JR are once again trying to get ahead of the other teams and have the cap and assets to make a splash.Pettersson for sure...
If it was up to me, I'd trade Letang and EK as well
Not really. Nucks GM is always aggressive and has 2.5 million in cap and more once Silovs and another dman gets waived.Way to early for this thread
Calgary might be set for the next decade if they decided to move both Weegar and Rasmus Andersson
Habs don't have a better dman prospect then Willander and besides they aren't anywhere near close enough to competing to be adding players that cost a ton.Habs would very easily beat that
This is a great one, when we talk about the change in hockey terminology these days. When is there a bumper crop of top 4 defencemen available?
It seems like they've been in demand for my entire (not insignificant) life.
Both Mailloux and Reinbacher are probably more valuable than Willander. Montreal also has the better depth at D to mix up a quantity for quality offer better than Vancouver. They also have a better F depth prospect in Beck, Roy, Kapanen and Hage and have more (and better) draft picks to offer value to NYI.Habs don't have a better dman prospect then Willander and besides they aren't anywhere near close enough to competing to be adding players that cost a ton.
I also think that Dobson would get at least one more big piece if Vancouver tried for him which they wouldn't because Dobson wouldn't get the type of minutes here.
We need a guy that is a number 3-4 who doesn't need to be an 8 million dollar dman but one getting paid four that is playing like an 8 million one (Anderson) would be awesome. Ideally just a solid dependable guy that can move the puck in the middle pair is all this team is missing, based on the first eight games.
There isn't usually that much buyers for top4 Dmen. Teams that have a hole in their top 4 usually drop out of contention throughout the year.
Its the bottom pair guys that are constantly in demand.
He has a full NMC but he has been excellent this year and worth his salary so far. If he decided to waive and they were to move him I don’t think it’d just be a cap dump I think they could get solid assets back. I don’t see him waiving though or them asking him too. Especially when they just resigned his best bud TK to an 8 year deal.If the Flyers had any brains, they would move Sanheim. He would be a very good add to pretty much every team.
