Gonna be a huge disappointment for the Kreider-lovers if he gets manhandled in a fight

Anyway, that move was nothing but stupid, considering the state of the game. Hopefully he has learned to use his head before he acts, the reactions would be quite different if the opponent scored.

The time in the game was not great but I'll take that all day! This team needs more of this kind of attitude. Those are the kind of penalties that teams should be happy to kill. Just not in the last few minutes of a one goal game.

I have to be honest. I think the majority of this board is making this whole thing much bigger than it is in an effort to praise Kreider for something that, at its core, was very stupid.

Do I hope he picks his spots / timing better in the future? Sure. But it's about time we finally had someone willing to go out there and play like that. I hope he ragdolls some Lil' Debbies tonight. Maybe he can throw Henrique into the boards like that.

I don't think anyone sees him as a skilled brawler; so I won't be disappointed. As for the reaction to the hit being effected by the result of the game; maybe. From my perspective, he did the right thing. We need to stick up for our skilled guys and this was an opportunity to do that. If they score on the PP we play OT for the extra point. Sometimes, you just have to stand up; and he did that. Good job Chris.

So you were on the ice all game and know everything that happened between Upshall and Stepan? How do you know Upshall wasn't jabbing his stick in Step's crotch all game and he finally got sick of it in the 3rd...

Then challenge him to a fight. You can't take a bad (albeit tough) penalty with less than two minutes in the third and with a one-goal lead (especially when a power play will mean a two-man advantage).

If Upshall had been at it all game, address it earlier.

I never said the timing was good, but people surmising it wasn't "needed" is pretty stupid IMO.

Do you really think he expected Upshall to go flying like that? I posted after someone put up the gif that it looked like it was one of those doctored gif's on the main board diving thread...

People really need to calm the down, the kids a rookie, he apologized to his teammates that's all that matters...yet we have plenty of people in here accusing him of "continuing" to play dirty, blah f'ing blah blah blah.

Funny that the guy he stuck up for is pretty happy he did it...yet the doom and gloomers on this forum make it sound like he killed their dog...

I watched Schultz pound Dale Rolfe, I watched Vukota pound Jeff Bloomberg, I've seen a lot of teams take advantage of Ranger players over my 40 years watching, so pardon me if I'm not boo hoo hoing over a penalty in the last 2 minutes of game 17 even if that penalty would have caused them to lose the game...which it didn't

Stepan wasn't looking to get involved he was looking to change and if Upshall had wanted to go to his own bench he would have. Kreider was heading off and took the opportunity to shove Upshall, who was kind of blocking the door to the Rangers bench, away from Stepan. You can throw all of the "woulda coulda"s out there that you want, but bottom line is Kreider sent a little message and the Rangers killed the penalty. End of Story. Was it CLEAN? No. What penalty is? But it wasn't exactly a dirty play either, from the front NOT the back, a shove NOT a stick, the chest, NOT the head, gliding NOT skating into him. What the hell would you prefer? Strong language? And who cares if Kreider can't fight? Boyle is AWFUL at it and HE avoids getting killed. I'd say Kreider is big and strong enough to hang on and neutralize most HWs out there if he has to, never mind Tyutin or Upshall.

In light of how it played out I'm happy he took the shot. It's hockey and no one got hurt. Except some feelings on HF it seems.

And I believe the majority (certainly not all) of people posting admitted the timing wasn't good, but like I said it's Game 17 and he is still a rookie...I'll cut him some more slack than so many of you seem to be unwilling to do...

I would say Kreider is just as (if not more) important as his linemates contributing to the lines success.

It seems like every goal starts with him knocking someone off the puck.

And, FWIW, teams are more willing to kill penalties like Kreider's. You want to kill something where a guy stood up for the teammate. Much more so than your run of the mill hooking call.
