I really love the way the leaders stepped up tonight, with an undermanned forward unit. Scheifele played this game with heart, and he's leading the ship. Even on the Connor goal, that was a terrific pick he set on Danault to give him the space to shoot. Josh is playing the most confidently I have ever seen.
Was good for Lowry to get a big assist on what could have been the GWG, shorthanded. Against Drew Doughty too, that was hopefully good for his confidence. Before it, the battles with Kopitar I thought he struggled with.
Kevin Stenlund had a game that probably keeps him in the lineup. De Melo had a strong game. I guess they proved me wrong about them, at least for one night. Morgan Barron was a force too. Like the new guy, he seemed to enjoy the physicality of this game.
It's a shame that Samberg stepped on a banana peel at a crucial time. I though he had solid game otherwise.
I like the 7 d alignment I have to say. Players didn't just get rolled over, forward and defense. Some clever player management to get Scheif out as much as possible with the skilled players. I think I would like it more if it were Heinola as the 7th defensemen over Stanley, but big Stan did have some chops tonight.
I don't know if Maenalanen saw the ice again after that 2nd period goal, that he turned into a scoring chance. If he did it wasn't often...
Probably the biggest disappointment was the PP. Another chance to ice a game and they don't come through. Nothing really positive to say about it. I know Bones has been hard on Ehlers, maybe deservedly, but jeez the guy scored a nice PP goal not so long ago. Wheeler just doesn't have the quickness that you need on the PP, if you aren't going to be the guy standing in front of the net.
I think fans got to see a future HoFer in Kopitar tonight. Doughty too. Good Kings team, hard working Jets team made for a great game, tough result.
Kings though still look vulnerable to me with their goaltending. Copley gave up a couple of goals that elite goalies would save.
