I didn't rate Habs 2nd pair as NHL's 4th best ... this is done by stats geeks at Corsica hockey ... which by way have 5 Canadians D in top 50 ... by comparison we have 3 in top 50 (with both Rielly and Muzzy in top 20) ... I did not mean to be condescending ... my point was Edmundson can play as 4th dman on almost every single team in NHL including ours (he is better than Brodie but he plays D not offense) ... we should have got him instead of Brodie as he would have been a better partner for Rielly's game (not that he is a top 2 he isn't) but he would have complimented Rielly much much better

I'm pretty comfortable saying that them having 5 Canadien players in their top 50 is really strong cause to question the quality of the ranking as a whole.
As for Brodie vs Edmundson. Brodie is the far superior defenseman, so I reject the idea we chose the wrong player just because stylistically Edmundson "might" be a better fit with Rielly. Style doesn't matter if there is no substance, and we can always put Brodie with Muzzin if he's not a fit with Rielly.
Edmundson is a bottom pairing quality defenseman.

I don't know how they do their stats but what I know as a former player is Holl should be NOWHERE near any teams top 4 ... he is not even a bottom pairing guy he is at best a 7th who plays when someone gets hurt ... da best teams have 3 big mean fast tough defenders matched up with 3 puck moving d men who can also play some defense ... we have improved over last year for sure but we will see how matchings work in real games which are da true test

No argument on Holl. Neither he nor Edmundson are 2nd pairing guys.

for the record, corsica hockey is no longer active. I know dailyfaceoff still uses their rankings but i'm not sure what numbers they are actually using, since corsica hasn't been active since before last season.

So if we split the PP and Lehtonen goes to the taxi squad who mans the 2nd unit? Dermott? Muzzin?
I really, really wish Sandin was starting on the team so he could do it. We even got a suitable partner for him with Bogosian as well.

I don't follow them ... about a year ago one of my sons bought da program for some betting he does ... he thought he could make a side buck doing bets on sports ... i gave him some start up $$ to try his luck ... he has subsequently and thankfully retired from losing ... like i said i personally don't go off their stats or oddsharks or william hill or anyone's else's either

Just to further make the point of how no ranking worth anything could possibly have 5 Canadiens defensemen in the top 50. Consider this list:
I went through each team on cap friendly taking only players who are head and shoulders far better than Edmundson, and bonafide top 4 quality players.

I got this:

Giordano, Tanev
Klefbom, Nurse
Weber, Petry, Chiarot
Chabot
Rielly, Muzzin, Brodie
Hughes, Schmidt, Edler
Morrissey, Fowler, Lindholm, Manson
OEL, Chychrun
Girard, Makar
Doughty
Suter, Spurgeon, Dumba, Brodin
Karlsson, Burns
Krug, Parayko
Theodore, Pietrangelo
Slavin, Hamilton, Pesce
Jones, Werenski
Heiskanen, Klingberg
Ekblad
Josi, Ellis, Ekholm
Hedman, McDonagh, Sergachev, Cernak
McAvoy
Dahlin, Montour
Subban, Pulock
Trouba, Deangelo
Provorov, Braun
Letang, Dumoulin
Carlson

60 players. And this is with people omitted that could have qualified for this list and with probably a hundred or more people between this group and where Edmundon belongs.

well, I loved corsica when it was active but I know Manny works for the Seattle Mariners now, so I don't know what's going on with those numbers.

But the numbers on every other site don't show anything like those numbers.

Classic. "I played hockey, therefore I know more than anybody who hasn't played or what any stats say".

Hayes, Noodles and O Dog were saying that Lehtonen is on the taxi squad and Dermott and Bogosian are going to be the 5-6 D pairing Wednesday night.

I know we're not the most rational bunch, but Montreal has to have the most delusional fanbase in the league going into this season. Their roster doesn't even look like a playoff team in a regular year and they're talking like they're favorites to come out of the division.

Can't wait to watch reality sink in.

The biggest misconceptions are thinking that Price is going to make a difference in a divison full of capable starting goalies, and thinking their defense is enough to make up for their lack of scoring ability.

Price vs.

Hellebuyck
Markstrom
Andersen (If return to form)
Holtby ( If return to form)

Price may be the best of the bunch at times but there are 3 goalies in that group within 0.001 SV% of Price's career numbers.

Weber/Petry/Chairot vs.

Rielly/Muzzin/Brodie
Gio/Tanev/Hanifin
Hughes/Schmidt/Myers

Weber and Petry are great but aren't getting any younger and then the quality drops off significantly after that. I would also argue Vancouver/Calgary/Toronto's 3-6 are better and deeper than Montreal as well.

I think this is one of the better questions into wednesday. Powerplay is key for us and now with the shake up, big joey and simmonds being on the first powerplay, interesthang to see whom gets the key to the d-pairing on the 2nd one. Tavares on the second in my opinion is still wrong. Our captain is such a sucka for the pp.... does everythang right. From the faceoff on. Should be on the first one. Always.
