I'm not saying rush the kid. I'M am however saying; with the way this team looks, combined with Dal Colle looking like the finisher we desperately need... No reason to believe in the event of an injury that Dal Colle won't be the first guy to come to mind.

I didn't imply that he would become a main stay, but would def get a taste.

Looks like Golyshev is not doing so hot...I hope this is just temporary.

On another note...our D are doing really well!

Verhaeghe is looking good too..Hopefully he gets a shot..want to see how he will do with the big boys.

In top 100 there are multiple Russian goalies listed, who don't have the stats Sirokin does. Having never seen him or any of the Russian goalies live, can anyone enlighten as to why Sirokin seems to have been snubbed?

Because Hockey News sucks. Seriously they overhype the Canadian teams and barely cover anyone else.

The prospect issues used to be very respectible when McKenzie was doing them

The have Shestorkin (Rangers) and Samsonov (Capitals) in the top 100 but not Sorokin. Therefore making that list a joke. Another list of top goalie prospects came out recently that had Sorokin as the 2nd best goalie prospect, that made more sense. Also, how is Sorokin NOT a blue chip prospect ? Was named the KHL's top goalie, was in the KHL Allstar game, was in the KHL finals, all as a 20 year old in the 2nd best league in the world. Mind boggling.

Lol, I had a feeling they would put Igor Shestyorkin ahead of Sorokin, which is a freaking joke.

SKA St. Petersburg is loaded with NHL-caliber players and the most prolific offense in the KHL with players like Kovy, Datsyuk, Voynov, Gusev, Barabanov, etc. Koskinen has been great there and somebody named Yevgeni Ivannikov looked good in his one game.

Sorokin is the best goalie in the KHL and it is a joke that The Hockey News doesn't recognize that. But the rest of the hockey world knows.

Lol, not until Igor wins the #1 job on his own team (put away Koskinen first as the clear-cut starter) AND does it for a full season and throughout an extended playoff run.

Igor was in the VHL for most of last season and was lapped by Sorokin. He has a handful of good games on an all-star KHL team.

It is clear that Sorokin has accomplished far more the last year-plus and is the more accomplished prospect right now.

Moscow, Russia
Sorokin with shutout vs Czech in 3-0 win, made 32 saves. Russia won Karjala Cup, first in 5 years, with a team of U23 (alright, there were older guys, but average age was slightly above 22) players.

Czech didn't have a lot of quality chances, but 32 saves still was a lot, and Sorokin looked rock solid.

Spare me the stats part(wins the starting job is stats). I know both prospects pretty well and they are fairly equal in talent.

I appreciate your opinion Atas2000, but it's just that, it's an opinion. Sorokin has proven more in the last 2 years and is considered by MOST goalie experts as the better goalie prospect.

That being said, since you are high on both of them, what would you say each goalies strengths and weaknesses are ? Watching Sorokin I've noticed he goes down on the butterfly too quickly therefore susceptible to the high shot.

Sure, just conveniently throw out the stats and the mental fortitude that it takes to carry the load over a full season, including the playoffs where the pressure increases significantly, as the unquestioned starter of a team with playoff aspirations. Then it fits your narrative just fine.

And, let's be honest, SKA is loaded and the clear-cut #1 team in the KHL. Koskinen washed out of the AHL but has been very good for SKA for some time now. Just about any average goalie will look good behind that team right now. I also recall Igor taking a drubbing early in the KHL season and in that game he looked very slow when he was being screened and didn't have a clear view of the puck.

They might be "fairly equal in talent" but Igor has a lot to prove first. Physical talent only gets you so far. The mental aspect and rigors of intense match play is the deciding factor ultimately.

Win the #1 job for his team, do it for a full season, step up in the playoffs and win. Then he might be on par with Sorokin, who just backstopped the his team to victory at the Karjala Cup tournament. And that is why anyone putting Igor before Ilya in a list is just crazy. Igor is a fine prospect but I will take Sorokin right now.
