Islanders Woes

They need better scouts ,they really havent drafted as well as they should have .Their blueline is good ,but half of it wasnt drafted by them .I think i would move out the entire coaching and managerial staff, and spend some money on getting some quality known hockey people in there.

But the argument was that the picks were reaches. They weren't. They were picked right around where they were expected to be.

The original post I quoted said "most teams in the five spot would have taken Strome and Dal Colle". That's the one I took issue with, since that sentence only applies to Dal Colle.

In any case, the general point is that Snow chose Strome over two other guys who were also rated to go that spot, and (so far) he chose wrong. Which goes back to the bigger discussion about Snow's drafting.

Islanders remind me of the Penguins (pre Mike Johnston firing) and Caps (pre George McPhee firing) of a few years ago. Everyone was seeing a downward trajectory only to corrected by a few smart moves.

With that said, the Isles have much less to work with then those organizations had at the time and I don't trust the current management and coach to make the necessary changes... one of which includes removing the coach.

As for Snow, he has made some good moves but his overall team building has been poor. He has mis-timed prospect development and veteran retention. IMO Okposo should not have been kept this offseason as much as he should have been moved several years ago for the correct long-term piece. Maybe a player like Saad.

I feel the 2013 offseason's lack of addressing the goaltending (brining Nabokov back) and not getting more defensive depth sunk that team. Had the Isles made the playoffs in 2014 they would of had a clearer picture to evaluate some of their vets and upcoming prospects. Of course, Snow probably would probably have still mis-evaluated what to do next anyway.

As for Neidereiiter... other than spelling his name correct... am I missing something about the gloating Minnesota fan's responses? I don't see he would bring to the Isles lineup that is much more different then what is there now.

Snow is where it begins and ends. Someone who accomplished nothing but thinks he outsmarts others. Player development, the 3 goalie debacle, free agent fiascos, etc.

Snow has this one trait in common with Milbury. It's definitely his downfall, as it was Mike's.

I live in the NYC area and have lots of friends on the island and in Jersey that are die hard isles fans, my pops grew up on the island watching bossy and the boys, im really not trying to put them down but they have to have the worst management and drafting skills in league.

You look at a team who has had THIRTEEN first rounders in the last 10 drafts (excluding 2016) because im not going to judge this years draft and only THREE of those were outside of top 15.

This is all last 10 years not to mention some of the disasters ive seen in my life with Chara, Luongo, Bertuzzi, drafting Ricky D #1 and many other goffs.
The team/organization seemed to go downhill the minute Wang took over ownership of the team.

Only have themselves to blame really. Just no excuse for still employing Garth Snow and Jack Capuano.
Plus Wang and now the 'Barclays brothers.'

Islanders are a franchise in trouble, Barclays Center is a complete disaster and I am not sure how the Islanders are going to be here long term, and the team is looking like a serious downgrade from last year, Tavares leaving could be the death of this franchise in NY
How horrible at business do you have to be to go in with a business group who don't care about hockey and had a 'stadium/arena' that had no design consideration for hockey? So, you have a SUV in the crowd and obstacles taking up sight lines and you are going to charge people to sit in front of those? That's pathetic, sorry.

That ice must be the worst I've ever seen. It's so bad.
Yet another problem.

The entire ownership of the Isles is to blame. They decide who the managers and coaches are. If you have horrible drafting for consecutive years, they fire/hire the ones doing the choosing.

The hockey atmosphere is abysmal with problems getting to the arena (apparently) for a lot of people, a nice looking rink but a car is taking up seats and bad sight lines for a number of fans. The team is looking at other options or re-locating so someone obviously realizes the mistake of moving into Barclay's.

Just bad business decisions all-around including hockey ones.

It's too bad, the Isles are a good hockey franchise overall, and the NY area can probably hold three area teams but unforunately, they have to be at least, somewhat competent operations.

Said it months ago when you lose Okposo Martin and Neilson and the only addition of any real significance that you make is Ladd that's a serious downgrade

Chimera is old he was never going to have the year he had last year

The isles were always going to struggle

Garth snow should have been fired in 2010 because of the di pietro contract.

Charles Wang negotiated the DiPetro contract himself. That stupidity is all on the owner.

A couple of years ago people on here were kissing Snow's butt because they had good prospects. He's lousy.
