Islanders not renewing Lou Lamoriello’s contract

I've seen way too more people giving Lou has flowers and I think thats fine. However, to act like the Islanders didn't need to move on from Lamoriello is a lie. He was so insistent on this wild card finish that overall ruined the Islanders every year. They were essentially mid. Now they have to make the right movies. Honestly if they wanna improve, start by fixing that bottom 6 first and foremost. It's a travesty.

Likelier.

He probably found out through already through a crystal sphere.
Isles have 6 guys with term of 4 plus years. 3 D, 2 F and 1 G. Romanov/Dobson are 25, but are close to UFA at 2 and 1 year before it. Romanov going into his final year of his contract. Dobson is RFA. If neither wants to be part of a 5 year rebuild, both could tell management that they aren't signing for term and look at ARB to get a 1 year deal and hit the open market. Forcing the club to trade them.

Isles don't have a tonne coming up. Eiserman, Ritchie, and George are what like 19-21? But, if you are turning over all of Lee, Pageau, Cziskas, Pulluck, Pelech, Mayfield, Horvat, Barzal, Sorokin, and the 2 young D, that's a lot of roster spots to replace and will take a lot of time.

Monster decision for ownership. Have to listen to GM candidates provide their assessment of the organization and how they plan on moving forward. Decide which one makes the most sense.

Rebuilds are never a sure thing. Wings came out of their stretch of being bottom 5 with Zadina, Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson, Cossa. Got some good players but no one elite. How many of this group is better than what the Isles have now?

Now he can go and wake up early, drive slow in traffic and make everyone else late.

Didn't Roy leave Colorado because he wanted some sort of GM abilities/control ? Think he's an option here and if he doesn't get it, he might walk ? Maybe I'm misremembering why he left Colorado.

Roy was both the head coach and vice president of hockey operations in Colorado, and he reportedly quit because he disagreed about how the roster should be constructed. As a long time Avs fan, it seemed to me like Sakic stopped letting Roy make terrible roster choices (Brad Stuart, Eric Gelinas, Reto Berra, etc), which caused Roy to throw a temper tantrum and rage quit in August after he didn't get his way. And, as a result of how he chose to leave, Roy didn't get another NHL job for 8 years. Is he really going to throw away his second chance at a coaching job over the GM job? With Roy, it is not totally out of the question, but I'm hoping that he learned something since burning bridges in Colorado.

I’ve been busy at work the last few days so have generally refrained from posting.

I just stopped by to say that I took a minute for the sole reason of rereading the title of this thread.

:vhappy:

Rebuild is the only way forward. If they go forward with that crew, the floorboards will rot, they will fall to the basement, and just make the inevitable rebuild all the more painful.
You'd have to convince Dobson, who is a year out of UFA to stick around for a long rebuild. He's not seeing the PO again until he's in his 30's if he opts to stick around. I mean, look at Larkin in Det. Been 9 years since he made the PO with the wings. He's now going to turn 29 in 2025. Made the PO when he turned 20.
