Tennis: French Open 2025

Now that we are down to the round of 32, I'm going to do a revised draft. Why? So I can be wrong twice. Nah, just for the fun of it.

Original predicted quarterfinalists

Sinner/Draper
Djokovic/Cerundolo

Fritz/Musetti
Alcaraz/Ruud

---------------------------------------------

Revised quarterfinalists

Sinner/Draper

(I was a little tempted to shift horses to Fonseca, but Draper has had a very impressive clay court season)

Djokovic/Cobolli

(Djokovic continues to have a cake walk to the quarters. Cobolli has been playing very well, and I'm hoping Zverev is about to crack. Plus, rational, scientific reason, I hate picking the SOB to win anything)

Musetti/Tiafoe

(None of the guys remaining in what was the Cerundolo section are clay court players. An absolute toss up between Korda and Foe. However, Frances performs better in showtime situations)

Alcarez/Paul

(Khachanov is playing well, but Paul should beat him)

-------------------------------------------------

Sinner over Djokovic
Alcarez over Musetti

Alcarez over Sinner

Both Rune and Paul survive major five set scares. While Rune had to survive coming back from a two sets to one deficit, Paul had the tougher task, playing through a leg injury/cramping that found him holding on to win the fifth set against Khachanov by the hair of his chinny chin chin.

After a tight first set that went to a breaker, Tiafoe cruises against Korda who never did find his game. Francis is looking pretty damn good at the moment. Going to be a tough out for whomever he plays.

Carlos putting more work on his body during this tournament is going to be an issue in later rounds. I can 100% see the Musetti or Rune winner beating him, hell maybe one of the Americans shocks him from all the fatigue he's gonna feel

He looks like he's self-destructing right now

Crazy to watch, he just can't find any consistency

It won't matter because Dzumhur isn't going to make him pay but Musetti or Rune would beat this Alcaraz, Sinner would probably dog walk this Alcaraz in 3-4.

A lot of Alcaraz's issues is he doesn't get up for players that are like this and winds up overplaying matches at times. He's still in his 20's but this is where I question some of his longevity when the athleticism goes

He's going to have to play a lot better than he did today to go deep in this tournament

A gutsy Tommy Paul or in form Popyrin will be his first test, Shelton is going to get smoked by Carlos
Unless he is dead tired, Sinner never seems to go off the boil whereas Carlos can play up or down to his opponent or up and down to the situation sometimes losing sight of the central goal which is to win and spend a minimum of time on court doing it. I don't think either of them will change much at this point. One will continue to have the higher floor; the other will have the higher ceiling. I agree, though, that Shelton is his perfect foil right now--somebody dangerous enough that Carlos knows he has to take him seriously but, also, someone whom he has confidence he can beat.

Shelton just doesn't have the shot making to contend with Carlos on clay. So it won't truly matter in that match at all.

I agree with the Sinner high floor v Carlos high ceiling thing as well but there's time where you can see Carlos aches for consistency. There's just some matches he goes completely off the rails and can't figure himself out. Coco is a lot like that on the women's side FWIW.

If you want to complain about TNT complain about the same Sex and the City sequel ads every break. I can't take it anymore

What looked like a stellar match-up on paper turned out to be an old-fashoned, butt kicking blow out. Draper clobbered Fonseca 2, 4 and 2. There was a great disparity in favour of Jack both in their service and return games, and Draper was so successful from the backcourt that he seldom moved forward for volleys. Jack continued to mightily impress on clay, while Joao has some more growing pains to overcome before he catches up with him.

Sinner over Lehecka 0, 1 and 2. And you could honestly say it wasn't even that close. Awesome all-around performance by Jannik that just might traumatize Lehecka for a couple of months. Looks like we are headed for a titanic battle between Sinner and Draper in the quarters.

I cannot stand Adam Lefko
Preach, brother. He's awful on the NBA broadcasts and he's even worse doing tennis. Apart from the general cringiness, he serves no useful purpose whatsoever. Patrick McEnroe could do a better job in his sleep.

This Misolic guy has less than a 1% chance of winning this match, but he has a gnarly game based not on power but placement. Nole is getting a bit of a work out.

Svitolina comes from behind to knock of Paolini is three sets. Svitolina really raises her game in Grand Slams. For a player who has never made a final, she nonetheless has 13 appearances in the quarters of better over the last ten years in Slam competitions. She obviously takes representing the Ukraine very seriously.
