There is blame to go around to be sure, but I'd have to say cam ward and his .667 save percentage has to be more at fault than staal... Nilsson had an .857 and WON. Eric staal didn't contribute much but this was one of the rare games where a complete lack of offense wasn't the biggest problem.

Does JR actually WATCH the games before he goes around handing out millions?? I mean I like Faulk but ******* he has been AWFUL the last 2 months.

There's a lot too blame to go around. Whenever a team is outshot 10-0 and is down 3-0 before the 10 minute mark of the first period, it doesn't matter who you pin the loss on. That's a team disaster.

Were we even watching the same game? I've rarely seen a goalie hung out to dry THAT badly.

Not on ward. Even a little. This board always needs it's scapegoats and ward is it now apparently. Horrible reads in front of the net.

Vagrant - I think you're hitting on it. This is faulks first season with this kind of responsibility, as well as sekera. I think Faulk has hit his wall, both in conditioning and in fighting off the mental fatigue of this long a season in such a key position. I think sekera with his added experience has handled it better, but he has his off nights too. To me this is showing that if these two are our top pairing then we need two more guys at least at their ability. Defense by committee only works if there's a full committee.

At the very least one other guy at that level and a legit #3 guy (think someone like Wesley). Drafting Ekblad would be ideal obviously, but a guy like Haydn Fleury would be ideal in this draft if we can't land Dal Colle or Ritchie.

Maybe we should try a new lineup strategy....4F & 1D, but we only run 3 lines?

Semin-Tlusty-J.Staal-Lindholm
Skinner-Loktionov-E.Staal-Boychuk
Bowman-Nash-Malhotra-Dwyer

Sekera
Faulk
Hainsey

Khubodin.

It can't get worse...lets try to innovate!!! Think of it kind of like a mushroom

And on 3/26/2014, Cam Ward had a 29.03 GAA.

One game does not a terrible season make, but Ward is checked out. His first and third goals were weak. (First: he could have held on to the puck and/or been in position to stop it. Third: he could have been in position to stop it.)

Please note that Nathan Gerbe would be completely unable to crack the Islanders lineup.

please note

McDonald- Martin-Clutterbuck (3 guys Gerbe would need to beat out to play for us) +8

Nathan Gerbe -1

just saying.....

and Id still trade for Ward

I'm an hour behind you guys so I'm not reading this till later. Just wanted to throw out that McDonald's dad played for the whalers and that he grew up in my town. He even played a year or two on my high school's team, making him the first from my town in the NHL I believe. We had a guy back in my day make the echl, and I'm pretty sure we had a couple of others in the minors. Wethersfield, Ct....in the house.

Go Eagles.

That's crazy, I live in South Windsor.

Well, if this ain't rock bottom, I don't think I can handle whatever *that* looks like. Even John Forslund was blunt on the aftermath. This is on the players. All of them. They didn't show up to play, and there's no excuse or explanation. No trades or draft picks are going to change what happened tonight. There's plenty of talent in the room, but there's simply no heart.

To change what happened tonight -- and what's happened on far too many nights this season -- would require our best, highest-paid players showing up and going to work. Somebody simply has to sit down with the core leadership of this team and ask them if they plan on giving a crap at any point soon.

Tonight wasn't a matter of "not sorting out plays" or "losing track of a player." Guys were *wide freakin' open* in front of our goalie with nobody even in the vicinity. And to go down 3-0 at home in the first six minutes and not react? Not even an offer to drop the gloves. Nothing. No fight of any kind. It's inexcusable. These guys didn't show up tonight. I can't even say they quit, because they were never there.

No pride. No class. They should be ashamed to cash their paychecks. The leadership in the room is far, far, far more important to me than the coach or GM.

Yeah, they scored a few goals and the score didn't look ugly at the end. But they were playing an AHL team with a crap goalie. They didn't start playing "well" or anything. Just like the wins in Columbus and Winnipeg. The goaltending masked the fact that they played like ****. Tonight, it didn't. No excuses.

Exactly. It seems to have gotten worse as the season goes on, but the defensive (both forwards and defensemen) breakdowns for this team are like watching a Mite team where everyone follows the puck.

I can't imagine that the coaches have a strategy where guys both go for the puck (Nash did this on a 3 on 3 that caused it to turn into a 2-1) or leaving guys wide open in front of the net (multiple players did this), or hanging along the boards while the play comes back behind the net leaving the middle wide open (E. Staal on the last goal, and to a lesser extent Faulk), etc.. To me, this is about effort, plain and simple.

Too bad JR signed Khodobin this offseason. If he hadn't, this team would be in the running for the #1 pick. :sarcasm:

That's awesome! and..."The system was used to describe the Swedish national men's hockey team's approach during the 2002 Winter Games,[3][4] which was punctuated by a preliminary 5-2 win over the eventual gold-medal winning Canadian team."

We have the personnel for this. This is why we drafted Lindholm!!! :yo:
