Rumor: "Islanders exploring the market on Mat Barzal..."

I think the biggest question is what the league actually values him at? He isnt a superstar and has been an all star 3x in 10yrs. He is 30yrs old and proven injury prone player. I think a decent prospect and a late 1st or couple 2nds is his value but league will determine that.
If Barzal is getting traded any asset rich playoff team will be in play: MTL, CAR, Utah, Washington, Buffalo.

Doesn't make a lot of sense for the Islanders if they are getting 75 cents on the dollar for Barzal.

Late first with the guarantee he signs with us, which is different then just hoping he might sign with us. as I said they an do a sign and trade thing so Islander have the extra advantage of a 7th year to entice him.

I also threw in Duclair as a cap dump

Attaching Duclair as a cap dump to lower a great assets value is insane. Along with the fact that Tuck is going to get a huge contract and is already 30.

The isles NEED to get younger and NEED young top end talent to align with Schaefers window. We are years away from being a team that should acquire 30 year old players to put them over the top. Tuck for Barzal does absolutely nothing for us. It keeps us in nomans land.

In a world where decent UFAs get late firsts and decent prospects Barzal will get far more. There is zero chance the isles move him for that. He is a PPG player with a decent supporting cast or just a decent PP around him. Guys like him do not come cheap especially when they have 5 years left at a 9 million cap hit.

I mean Chicago is a fit for sure but you are delusional if you think Barzal returns you 3 elite players and picks... At best you would get maybe Lardis, Boisvert, 2027 Florida 1st. Barzal is a good player if healthy which is a big "if" and he has put up 2 80 pts seasons in 10 yrs..that gets you a mid tier trade package in return.
That's not a good enough offer...Florida's pick in 2027 will be a bottom pick. We would be looking for a higher pick.
Lardis is meh....Boisvert is interesting but I rather ask for one of their other top prospects.

you are under valuing Barzal. Not to mention Bedard is good friends for him and stated in an interview, the one player he would love to play - Barzal....

Barzal would be a nice-to-have player for Chicago, they are not going to pay top assets for him as he doesn't fit the timeline. When the Hawks are projected to be really competing in like 3-4 years and a 33-year old Barzal at that time is likely on the decline.

The better return would come from a playoff team looking to make the next step.

Barzal being 30 means he is for a win now team. You won't be getting the offer you want from Chicago.

I get it, that's a chicago question. They have a shit load of prospects and picks...moving off a few to pair Barzal who's big friends with Bedard could be worth it to keep Bedard happy. And it's not like we are dying to move off Barzal. Team is developing good players in the system who will be coming up this year and next. Good combo with Barzal, Sheafter and Horvat..

As I just replied to a previous post.
