Rumor: "Islanders exploring the market on Mat Barzal..."

You’re correct but obsession a small group of people in this fanbase have with EP40 because he played with Horvat is nauseating. That guy is about as much of a waste of money as Palat was this year.
They couldn't give EP40 me for free...I really think this guy is a cancer and with him being so mentally soft. It would be a disaster coming here...especially if it was in any sort of deal for Barzal.

EP40 at 50% for Duclair, Engvall, Palat, and Mayfield is the best I can offer honestly. Then they sign Lee and TDA to short term deals for 2 years max each. Palmieri, Lee, Cizikas and TDA ride off into the sunset together and the youth takes over.

They will trade him to a team for some "b" rated prospects. I can see Seattle taking a chance

Just clearing that much cap is a win in itself. I’m sure a team looking for that will give up a B tier prospect and youngish roster player plus short term cap dump.

I actually don't think that's selling low on Barzy; Larkin and Barzy are pretty close to even, and ASP is pretty much what this team needs for the right side of the D
again, we need young talent...not a 30 yr old player. Barzal should get us a combo of at least 3 good young elite players and picks. If I'm dealing Barzal its only to either Chicago, Utah, SJ or Montreal.

I'm not one of those Mat Barzal haters on the NYI board, but Larkin would improve NYI's special teams.

I can't speak to criticism of Larkin, but there's plenty of history showing that Barzal raises his level of play in clutch/playoff situations on both sides of the puck.

Not saying it can or should happen, just that as vaguely lateral trade ideas go, this is an interesting one to consider.

I don't think he'll get dealt. there are problems with every realistic scenario:
(i) Chicago: Barzal and Nazar are way too similar.
(ii) Seattle: I'm not sold on either Matty Beniers or Jake O'Brien, and there's nothing else I can see them dealing that moves the needle.
(iii) Utah: The redundancy/player similarity issue is even worse than it is with Chicago.
(iv) Vancouver: Doesn't fit their window, and there's 0 interest in EP. Scenarios that would result in any benefit to both teams would have to involve Hronek and a 3rd team, and that all gets silly very quickly.
(v) Montreal: He's not a fit. Like it would have to be a 3 way: MTL gets Larkin, DET gets Barzal, NYI gets prospects. 3 way trades are an order of magnitude less likely to occur than 2 way trades.
(vi) Detroit: It'd be a lateral move for both franchises, and no reason to think Barzal would want to go to Detroit or Larkin would want to go to NYI.

I would be open to trading Barzal to Team X for picks and prospects then turning around and trading for EP if he was cheap and Vancouver would be willing to eat a couple not so great contracts(Duclair and Engvall)

Buffalo could be a landing spot with Jarmo looking to make big moves in the offseason.

Only way I can see a trade with Buffalo work out is if they give the Islanders the opportunity to negotiate with Tuch and if the Islanders can sign him he amounts to the value of an early 2nd, if they can't Islanders owe nothing

Something like Buffalo's first(would accept either 2026 or 2027 top 10 protected), negotiating rights to Tuch(under the assumption he signs with us, possible sign and trade so we get the advantage of that 7th year) and Kessering for Barzal and Duclair(negative value)
