Face-offS really don't impact the game game muchYeah, I realize there's a "code". (I played in the late 1960s and early 1970s and several times saw both ends of the "code". I have since become a "pacifist".) However, by taking himself out of the game for the last five minutes of the period, did Lowry really help the team? I guess they played better in the second and third, but it still resulted in a loss, the only game stat that really counts. Lowry also takes a lot of important faceoffs (52.0%FOW) and although a lot of folks discount the importance of FOWs, I think they are important. (Would the league keep those stats if they weren't?)
Anyway, since I'm on the topic of FOW, here are the current stats for the Jets' Cs:
Scheifele 48.4%
Namestnikov 45.1%
Lowry 52.0%
Kupari 52.6%
Gustafson 48.7%
As a team, the Jets are 21st in the league at 49.3%.
Wouldn't it be great to have one of our no. 1 and 2 Cs with a FOW >50%?
But A faceoff can completely change it
At the end of the day, a guy who wins 51/100 vs a guy who wins 49/100 isn't a statistically significant improvement
