Post-Game Talk: Islanders 3 - Jets 2

It was a kinda perfect game to sum up Ehlers as a player

A few amazing plays including the goal, but a bunch of stupid puck management decisions in important areas
Don't forget lying on the ice and whining like 3 times.

While i agree about Samberg's worth to the team Pionk having to play with Stanley up on the 2nd pair i think had more effect. I have given Stanley the benefit of the doubt for most of the season but i'm sorry Stanley is a 6th defenseman at best and going into the stretch run i would love to see him more of our 7th .
I thought Stan started strong but kind of lost it in the 3rd. Started panicking and making dumb plays.

I didn't like Fleury, but I thought Pionk was strong.

First pair had a below average game for them.

WTF is going on with Nino lately, usually he is very dependable but these last 10 or so games he has looked like the weak link on that line, and yeah Apples ain't much better, that line kinda blows big time right now.
Think he's injured. Seems to have lost a step over the course of the season. Adam Lowry has needed a scoring winger since his return after the 4 Nations. Wonder how long Arniel runs with their slump.
Adding a scoring center with top 6 skill will do a lot, especially if he can function with Ehlers, Vlad ain't it, has never been it and never will be it, love the guy but he needs to be in the bottom 6.
What stood out to me is 2 defensive plays Nelson made to break up grade A scoring chances by our top 2 centers, one on the hard Namestnikov drive to the net, and the other on Vilardi's sauce pass to Scheif. That's a complete center effort.

Namestnikov isn't playing badly by any means, he's not playing with finishers either. Ehlers isn't finishing 5 on 5. And Perfetti is still not finishing his chances. So it's equal opportunity with that line.

Kyle Connor is a shell of his former self after the 4 Nations Cup and does not excel vs heavy teams. This is not a surprise but is frustrating.
Was going to post something the same, guy is not the same player he was before the stupid 4 nations tourney! Torts took his confidence

And Ehlers, Vlad and Perfetan only looking and playing like top 6 players for 25% of the season doesn’t cut it and is a huge problem!

Had to score early in that game. You need to make teams like the Islanders chase the game. Thought we had a bad 15 minute stretch after the 1st half of the 1st/early 2nd and that was it. We seemed to bobble the puck in tight areas where we were burying those chances during the streak. Bound to happen. I think they keep playing this way with the powerplay going and we will win a lot more then we lose

Ehlers lying on the ground makes me want to see someone pick him up and spank him like the little baby he is acting like.
This isn't junior hockey, you're going to get hit in the bigs, deal with it.

What's the issue with Lowry fighting Lee, you take off one of their best players off the ice for 5 minutes, that's a win plus his head probably hurt.
I have two problems with it, first were already down our best pking d in samberg we can't afford to lose our best pking center for a fight that didn't matter and secondly up until that point all the islanders had were a bunch of perimeter shots all a fight was going to do was give them life

There's a code

Lee asked him to go... he obliged.... and in turn, the next player he asks will also oblige

That's the way it works for guys like him
he actually was the one to ask for it because romanov got appleton with a clean hit..

If I recall, he wanted to go right after the hit but it didn't happen

Anders stepped in and gave him a dance partner... but he initiated it

Just like when Zadorov went with Lowry after the Fredric/Gus beatdown

the fight happened the shift after the hit, lowry even said he asked lee after the game because he knew romanov's not a fighter

You got to love Adam Lowry there. Bloody knuckles, giving Lee a tap for answering the bell. The Jets are a class team the way Lowry leads by example. Not playing over the line, playing by the code.

Still thought it was a clean hit. Appleton taking his lumps on the boards in the past few games.

I'm all for fighting when it's needed, that was a time it wasn't needed....

Exactly Saros and Fedotov only allowed one goal vs the Jets and the very game they allowed 6 goals.
It’s not like the Jets are getting blown out … 3 losses 0-2-1 all by one goal.
The SJS and STL games weren't masterpieces either.

I think I've established myself as a pretty positive guy with regards to this team, but they aren't firing on all cylinders right now

Im just glad that the PP got two. Not super upset about the loss cause I thought we had some great chances, but sorokin is good. PP getting two is good for the confidence of the team and kinda feels getting a weight off their back.

If this was happening closer to the playoffs i'd be more worried. Plenty of time still to write the ship and as many others have said, I think the guys are playing anxiously because of the TDL.

SMH what is happening to me. I just consciously typed out "write the ship"

Yeah, I realize there's a "code". (I played in the late 1960s and early 1970s and several times saw both ends of the "code". I have since become a "pacifist".) However, by taking himself out of the game for the last five minutes of the period, did Lowry really help the team? I guess they played better in the second and third, but it still resulted in a loss, the only game stat that really counts. Lowry also takes a lot of important faceoffs (52.0%FOW) and although a lot of folks discount the importance of FOWs, I think they are important. (Would the league keep those stats if they weren't?)
Anyway, since I'm on the topic of FOW, here are the current stats for the Jets' Cs:
Scheifele 48.4%
Namestnikov 45.1%
Lowry 52.0%
Kupari 52.6%
Gustafson 48.7%
As a team, the Jets are 21st in the league at 49.3%.
Wouldn't it be great to have one of our no. 1 and 2 Cs with a FOW >50%?
