Idk how Gallant can ever put Blais back in

Gauthier had two points in 8 mins of ice time. Blais doesn’t even have a point in all his mins this year
All Gauthier does every time he plays is get a breakaway and or draw a pp for us.....at half the cost of Blais plus his speed and size are an asset . This guy should be locked down and be a fixture for us in the bottom 6 and he can move up if need be in case we had a rash of injuries down the road and not look out of place . I bet he also could learn to handle the crease spot of Kreiders with some guidance on the 2nd unit if needed . He seems like one likable kid with a great disposition . The girl who interviewed Schneider and Gauthier seemed to be enjoying herself in their discussions.....

Trouba was fine tonight.

My speculation is that he had a wrist injury and that it's run its course. He's back to blasting shots from the point and playing much better.
Sure is.....tearing the backboards all to pieces LOL.......I think we should have Schneider on PP 2 in his spot . What can it hurt as they likely have a .01 % success rate in their prime 30 seconds body of work .

I’ll say it. He’s absolutely worth the contract he got. It’s an odd-looking deal but he’s absolutely a $3.6m player and I don’t think he’s gonna fall apart anytime soon.

3.6 is easily worth it but the length is a bit much

There's so much more to come, especially once Laffy starts going too.
......and in the near future with Othmann-Cuylee-Sykora-Rempe-Edstrom and we likely find a nugget one of these drafts or a college signing . Add in some of that nastiness with KK-Kravs-Laffy.....it is the getting there part that is painful . It takes time.....

Kreider doing Captain things on the bench...

He should be wearing the "C" and no one will convince me otherwise.
Same here. Regardless that I am not a huge trouba fan, how anyone else but the longest tenured Ranger, who also has gone through the ups and downs over his career WITH the Rangers be the Captain thats not named Kreider is beyond me.

What message does it send when it seems as if Panarin has about 3 giveaways a game and never sits and Kakko gets benched as soon as it happens.
Why should both players be treated equally? Panarin is an established vet and has the puck a lot of the time and he is prone to giveaways but he also creates lots of offense so they live with the bad. He has been their leading scorer every year he has been here and is on pace for close to 100 this year. When Kakko starts putting up 60-70 point numbers then maybe he will be given some leeway also when he makes a mistake.

Did you know prior to tonight's game, the Isles were 11-0 heading into the 3rd with the lead?

I can't believe we are done with them for the season.
I did not know that!! Awesome!!

Yeah Blais is cooked. Would not be shocked if he’s in Hartford or perma scratched until trade deadline when he’s traded for a 6th or 7th round pick.
I hope not.

In Arthur Staple's most recent mailbag regarding how the players feel about their Captain:

"Few players crave that sort of responsibility. Most love it when they have one or two or three guys who go to the coach with an issue or stand in front of reporters to answer for a crappy game or say the hard things that need to be said during a losing streak.

Trocheck has done a decent job of speaking up and being a leader in his first season. Panarin has taken some strides in that area. Kreider is a beloved teammate but doesn’t want the spotlight on him all the time. Zibanejad would likely have been the second choice for captain and his voice, though quiet, carries a long way in there."

Great leaders never want the spotlight. That's part of being a great leader.

I agree as long as Panarin keeps generally "good habits" as he has recently. The good-to-harm ratio increases by multiples with his talent. There will always be mistakes. But play responsibly, not recklessly, and they are minimized.

Sam mentioned it, so of course it ended.

Feels like the first time we’ve beaten the Islanders in like 18 months or something crazy.

Great win.
Panarin gives the puck away a half dozen times per game and doesn’t get benched. Because he produces. But did he learn to produce first, or while making mistakes? It’s the chicken or the egg argument. I say give the kids longer leashes to make mistakes. It’s how they will learn what works and what doesn’t at this level.

Jack Hughes is the golden comparison here for me. He had a rough rookie season but you could tell once the opportunities started breaking right the floodgates would open. The Devils trusted in the process and let him learn from his mistakes.

The Kakko rollercoaster last night was huge for a lot of reasons. A big step in the right direction. The giveaway was brutal but he was also trying to dangle a player. He’s got wonderful hands and it’s going to work if he keeps trying it.

- One of the most complete games of the season

- Kravy up on the first line balanced the lineup.

- I was so happy with the way they were playing, I found myself not caring that much if they ended up winning.

- Gauthier may have finally found his NHL role. Proof that these kids take time. That Keane trade turned out to be sneaky good in the long run. Also sneaking the shot thru the 5 hole as opposed to going all the way around for the stuff in is way smarter.

- Key with a great game and an unreal pass to Kakko. I don't even know if he saw anyone in front but wow.

- And Kakko being ready for that pass and then the roof shot, wow.

- We were doing a lot of things right in that game, but I felt like the turning point were those two posts the Islanders hit in quick succession. That gave the Rangers confidence because finally it seemed like the puck luck was on their side.

- It was nice to win against a great goalie. Sorokin made some unreal saves. Notice though, he too, cannot stop shots he never sees. I'm willing to guarantee the odds of NYR winning any given game is when we score one of those greasy goals.

Again, just super proud of the way they played. Happy Holidays, everyone!

Yeah that’s true, I didn’t want them getting penalized, I just thought then arguing what happened in these cases was particularly head scratching. Usually if a guy is whining about something borderline you can see their point but these were two blatant penalties 100% of the time and seeing two guys arguing so strongly against them I felt like I was in the bizarro world for a second or something, like I’m crazy and was missing something.
I think the Islanders just wanted what the Pens always get against us. Human nature, right?
He made some lousy plays ... multiple times he made bad decisions & lost the puck which led to Isles opportunities when he could have done something better. He's gotta play like a fourth liner. Simple, safe, straight ahead & minimize the fancy stuff.
Or, maybe he feel he isn't "just a 4th liner". Maybe he is capable of making some plays, but simply doesnt get the steady PT that is needed. From what I see, he is busting his ass out there, and if he makes a boneheaded play, so be it. Everyone does. You can't screw up, if you dont have the puck and /or just there and puck watching.
Just ask Artemi, Kreids, Mika and the whole lot of them.

The Flyers broadcast team mentioned Panarin having a great season, but 'surprisingly he only has 1 goal in his last 21 games'. I thanked them profusely. Panarin scores in the 1ast period and the PBP guy goes 'well....there it is', he knew what he did.

He's a funny guy, when Miller had his trip on a break and still scored he said incredulously 'that's a defenseman folks'.

I like the Flyers broadcast team. Keith Jones is also like a warm glass of milk because I'm so used to him from national broadcasts.

Giving up a puck when you're the last man back that directly leads to a clean breakaway ain't so hot. Kakko knew it was a major screw-up.

He got benched for a few shifts. Big effin deal.

If Torts was coaching, Kakko wouldn't have played another shift and would be benched in the next game.

In sports, the top players aren't held to the same standards. You might not like that, but it's a universal that you already know.

After a game like that, being negative about one player's minutes is staying on agenda out of stubborness. It's like the folks who have to bash Trouba every day, even if he plays a good game, and he did play a good game, even if it was his first of the season.
He knew it was a screw up like you said, so what are you accomplishing benching him? It isn't a teaching moment if the player already knows it is a mistake...

And it isn't one player's minutes. It is the same trend again. I didn't think it was necessary to go through everyone players minutes and giveaway stats to lay out the same trend that we usually see here.

Absurd take. These guys basically play every power play for 2 minutes straight. That’s 12 minutes right there or, and math has never been my strength but even I can do the math- only 11 minutes of equal strength time— or almost exactly the same allocation as the other lines.

Can’t you just enjoy a win in a very important game?!?!
That's cool, it is absurd.

As you said having the same guys play the full two minutes of every powerplay is what I think is absurd, especially when it is not clicking and goes 1 for 6. Icing the rest of your lineup bc you want to just keep running the same players out the whole time is absurd to me, especially when your go to move as a coaching staff is to "assemble kid line" but for some reason you cant keep them engaged in the game by even getting them 1/3rd of the pp time in a game where pp1 is not being efficient or effecting?

Yeah, but I am absurd...

Panarin is their most dynamic offensive player so he is going to gets minutes when they have 6 PP's. What do you call the play that allowed Barzal to get the puck and score on a breakaway? I call that a giveaway.
I am referencing the actual stats that were kept...

One of my favorite things to do is to go to the Devils board whenever the Rangers win.
