Losing to the Islanders gives me the same feeling as if you were wrestling with your little brother and he wins. The absolute embarrasment.

They played a solid game. It happens. It’s not like that loss will keep them out of the playoffs. I agree it sucks, but it sucks losing. However, if the blind mice throw their arms up on either one of the cross check or elbow to the face, we may be sitting here discussing something totally different.

Why?

Admittedly, the team hasn't had a good year -- but made it to the semis two years in a row.

Goalies played well. Sorokin's big 1st period kept them in the game. After that we didn't really test him as much in the 2nd and 3rd. A lot of bad angle and just toss it on net attempts to sneak the puck by him or get a rebound but Islanders were better covering the front of the net than we were. I thought Rangers could have applied a little more pressure in the 3rd and they looked lifeless after the go ahead was scored, even with the man advantage. Refs were bad but the team seemed to be more into complaining about that non-call than winning the game or staying in position. Kinda' of a joke we didn't at least come away with a point in this game.

The second line looked better without Hunt. I think Vatrano started out really well on that line but got a little lost there as the game went on because he was going into areas for a cycle and that's not what they do... Got in on the puck fast which should help that second line.

Fox started out well but finished poorly. The game plan seemed to be lobbying pucks towards his direction where he would have to protect the puck and they could easily body him off positioning near the boards.

People rightfully get on Strome's case, but how about that Mika whiff on the Kreider feed on the PP? That one hurts in these types of games with that trash team.
Nah. Zib had an excellent game last night. If anything, he's been so good at burying his chances lately that we're a little spoiled. We expect a perfect laser beam one-timers from him every night when most players can't even come close to ripping a shot like him.

He was also excellent in his own end as usual.

This team just can't put enough pucks in the back of the net. They do so much for so little output.
They just score 4 goals the game prior, and 7 goals the game before that.

Sometimes the other team's goalie wins a game for them. We see it with Shesterkin on our end all the time. The game could have easily been different if Panarin wasn't robbed by Sorokin in the first or the elbowing penalty were called or the last fluky goal bounced differently.

They lost to an experienced team by a slim margin and weren't outplayed in the process. It's fine.

hot take - you can have an amazing 5 on 5 team and still have games like last night. especially against that sub human hell spawn of a hockey team.

We lost the game mostly because we can't just rely on the PP and Shesty . At some point you have to have guys enter that area in the crease and battle with Dmen for positioning . The Isles do it on a regular basis and score there as well . Those shots by Panarin are lucky to get through especially by a club like the Isles who block lanes aplenty . Our top 6 is still not willing to battle for that space....until that changes not much else will change... Panarin will have his multi point games and his fan base will relish in it whether we win or lose . Wash-rinse-repeat Rangers . Gotta change the way our top 9 plays .
This is true. I thank the Mika line is doing ok though. Totally agree that the Panarin line needs to improve its battle level 100%. Panarin did it against Dallas a bit though. The third line is still a work in progress so I won’t judge yet. But I’m general, these guys will need to battle for space better once the playoffs arrive.

Bullshit. The Piles are slow and suck and are not making the playoffs. The Rangers had the better of the play and if Sorokin doesn't stand on his head and the officiating isn't absolutely horrible they win this game. Case in point, the fluke winning goal is scored after a clear elbow to Lindgrens face the drew blood that was somehow not called. Rangers win this game 9 times out of 10 with average officiating. I don't know what game you were watching.

They played a pretty darn good game last night 5v5. Sorokin was excellent.

But at the end of the day, the officials took points from the NYR last night. It's not even debatable.
At least one point. I don't want to say 2 because you never know if you score on that powerplay, but they were all set to get a point, which would have been big. Washington is 3 back. Pens are now 2 up. Rangers do have a game in hand on both teams, but one point here and there is huge. Washington got a bogus point on a non-call in that game against Edmonton. It adds up.

Everything's been covered pretty well so only thing I'll add is that it's a shame MSG isn't like that atmosphere wise more often. Being there last night, the crowd felt like a playoff game and it probably hasn't been that loud there since the last time they were in the playoffs. Obviously the fact that it's the Islanders and St Patty's day added to it but it really made for a fun time at the arena. Also not as many Islander fans as there usually are though that was expected given their place in the standings.

The Isles are a shit team but as long as they have Sorokin there they won't be a lottery club either. He's not Shesty but he's a damn fine goalie.
I would take Barzal. Pulock, Pelech, Sorokin, Nelson, Beauvillier, Wahlstrom, Dobson, Pageau, on the Rangers any day. They are not a sh!t team, they had an awful year and still be over .500, they probably will make some changes and will be battling the Rangers for the playoffs as soon as next year.

Refs sucked but we didnt play bad, i just get annoyed a bit that we seem to change our style of game depending on the opponent. If we played like we did vs Dallas last night we win but we came out defending right away.

Said it in the GDT before the game began, MSG has been absolutely great all season. It's been loud and engaged. The only thing is that most games have not been in division. Canes haven't come to town, neither has Pitt, which is happening twice in the space of two weeks. Washington was there once. This is also the first Islanders game there.

All the division games have been like that. Washington had that atmosphere. Devils shootout early on had it (which was the game where Blais was taken out).

MSG not having that was definitely a thing for a while, but this year is not like that. The atmosphere has been great.
