Is this it for Alfie?

Alfie is having way too much fun to call it quits now. I think he definitely has another year in him as he believes this team can be a contender going forward.

He definitely seems to be rejuvenated and loving the game right now.

10 points in 9 games this playoffs. Heroic and clutch moments. Please don't leave Alfie :(

I love Alfie, but really?

Asked linesman for puck after game, too MT @erinnicks Alfie, asked if they can come back. "Probably not. They have too much depth."

He will be back for one more year. The team will be hopefully healthy at the start and can build on it. The young players could use another year of mentoring with Alfie to help them in the long run. If the team does well and possibly makes a deep playoff run next season he could even come back yet again like Recchi did for the bruins. The team needs to transition to a point that Alfie would be a 3rd or 4th liner at worst on our team to extend his career beyond next season and have good success next season in general.

If Alfie goes this year, its a great way to go out. Still the best player on his team. But maybe without him there some of the young guys finally realize that they can't keep waiting for someone else to step up.

Alfredsson said the puck was for his kids at home but admitted he hasn't made a decision on next year either. #Sens

It'll come down to whether or not he believes his body can hold up 82 games. He still has the ability though, you can't deny that.

Here's hoping he took it to the locker room to show his team and say gimme one more "last home game puck" or something to that effect.

Yep. I've been of the opinion all along that he's "Joe Sakic"-ing it from here on in. He'll make a decision in August whether or not he'll be back, and he'll sign 1-year deals until he decides to hang 'em up for good.

There is a very real possibility that he just played his last NHL game in Ottawa... or not. I don't think even he knows at this point. I think it's pretty clear that the puck he grabbed at the end of today's game is at least indicative of the fact that he's at least considering retirement.

Sens fans have been bracing for this for a while now, though. It's going to absolutely suck when Alfie calls it a career, but at least we can't say that we didn't see it coming.

Alfredsson doesn't need to play 82 games, this team has a lot of depth & they can bring up a number of players throughout the year to take his roster spot from time to time & on back to back games. This doesn't mean they will take his spot on the Turris line or necessarily be in the top 6, we already have guys who can move up in the lineup. There will be lots of options in Bingo next season.

Huge hole without him. If Alfie isn't here this year we miss the play-offs. When he retires we could be in worse shape than Detroit was after Lidstrom.

If this season has taught us anything, it's not to doubt this team. Alfie will be a huge loss, but we've known all along that this rebuild was going to finish without him.

Man, hard to believe we'll ever win without him when we've never won with him.
