Is this it for Alfie?

Between his interview on Rome, grabbing the puck, and his defeatist comments last night Im almost 100% positive it is.

Which is a big turnaround. I was absolutely sure he would be back next year barring injury.

Well, he is at the end of his career. Whether or not that he retires this year that statement holds true.

There was more to it than that. If you heard it he went on to say "I could see it slipping away" or somethign along those lines...and just the way he said it makes you think "yep, this is it"

I think people are making too big of a deal out of grabbing the puck... It was his 100th playoff point. Him picking up that puck has absolutely no bearing on whether he's retiring or not.

Realistic comments and if paid a bit attention to the surrounding context you'd realize there was still a lot of fight left in him.

I thought he said he picked up the puck for his kids, I doubt it means anything. If he is offered anywhere from $4 to $6 mil I think he returns & he will be in a position to not have to play all 82 games especially back to back games.

I would easily give Alfie $6M. We have the cap space and he gave money back to the team when we needed it.

I've been hoping that he does retire simply because I don't like it when once great players hang on until they're a shadow of their former selves.

I admire guys like Jean Beliveau and Denis Potvin both of whom could have played for several more years but wanted to retire while still reasonably close to their top form.

At the other extreme you have future Hall of Famer Mike Modano watching games from the press box as a healthy scratch. I don't want that for Alfie.

Didn't put 2 and 2 together with the 100th point. Glad to hear that. Hopefully, he's got another one in him. Hopefully he waits to make a decision until this series is a distant memory.

I'm sure he'll have a private talk with someone from the Olympic Swedish team selection committee to see what chance he has of playing. If the answer is positive he'll be back.

Alfie will want to make a real run for the Cup if he comes back. Time to bring in some players and for Uncle Eugene to loosen the purse strings.

The thing is, the Sens will need him to make a push next year. Because of this, no Sens fan should want him to retire.

You must have stopped watching at the 5 game mark. Hell of a time to chime in now.

alfie played excellent tonight, backchecking, in front of the net, etc. etc.. he'll be back. he did not look slow. great, great player and leader.

I think he comes back. We're going to have a stronger team next year, the Olympics, and a Winter Classic? That would be good enough for me!

In his post-game interview, I found it very interesting that he didn't mention his family when they asked about retirement.

Last year he made a big deal about speaking to his wife and kids, where as tonight he just kind of mentioned he would have to speak to Murray and find out what type of deadline he expects etc, etc.

I feel like he was closer to retirement last summer vs this summer.

Next year he has a chance to play in the Olympics one last time, and Outdoor game AND, likely a team that is looking to spend more money.

Honestly, there is no way I think he retires. Next year would be the absolute best year for him to finish his career off.

Cap hit will force many good teams to lose a couple big assets, our prospects will be much better, Spezza and Karl at 100% and a couple big pieces through the summer should give us a contending year and a memorable Olympics for Alfredsson.

If Alfredsson retires this year I will weep, badly.
