Is this it for Alfie?

The puck may have been for his last home game, it may not have...we will never know as he can say whatever he wants and we won't know what is passing through his mind. As stated by others I think it simply comes down to his drive to maintain a top 6 position. If he's not able to keep himself in the proper shape or has no desire to dedicate the time, which is perfectly understandable in his position, then he'll go out on top. I'm sure he'll take the summer to think it over and discuss with his family, friends, and members of the Sens org (such as MacLean, Murray, and maybe Melnyk). He knows what goes on in that locker room and he knows the true strength of this team and the likelihood they will repeat success. However, given the projected success of this team next year I can't believe he won't give it 1 more go.

Hey, welcome back Main!

Just made a significant deposit into my "Alferdsson Jersey Retirement Night" account. I hope not to have to use it. I will buy season tickets if I have to, I will be there that night. This coming from a fan in the furthest major city.

True fan right here.

I'll be there for sure.

Well my first reaction on seeing him taking the puck was to check how many points/goals he had scored in the playoffs, 100, ok, tv turned off... It wasn't until today I saw what discussions this would lead to. I didn't see post-game but it seems as if he didn't give a clear answer, right? I think he wanted the puck for his 100th point in the playoffs but at the same time probably didn't want to seem as if he put his own "success" ahead of his team. Seeing as the team just lost 7-3 and are in big trouble maybe it was better not to come out and say that he's happy, proud or what-ever about reaching 100 points. He'll go on for one more year, not only for the Olympics imo, also because Ottawa is really shaping up to be a great team with a lot of young players breaking out and he's probably excited for that. Next year will be the last.

I agree with your assessment and think he'll play one more year. At the trade deadline Murray gets together with his coaches and discusses their plan for the deadline. I have a feeling GMBM might have discussed some things with Alfie as well, and if he really was going to retire we'd have been a bit more active.

I'm hoping next year we make a couple of bold moves to push us into the top 2-3 in the conference.

Soooooooooooooooo................. our best playoff performer is still Daniel Alfredsson.

This team is going to have make a BIG adjustment when he retires.

i'd take my puck and go home too after a 7-3 loss. I didn't really hear the 'can't come back' comment, but that's what i thought i heard and i thought it was very strange. must re-listen.

It's divisional play-offs next year, we'll have Boston and Detroit to contend with, plus the Florida teams that seem to be loading up on high-level picks. At least we don't get the Penguins until the conference finals.

Judging by his actions yesterday, I have a feeling that was his last home game (unless we bring it back for Game 6).

Thank gawd I was with 20,499 other people, because I could have cried...
If it was his last game, I'm glad I was there.

Agreed. I honestly thought he would have but after picking up the puck, I think this is it. I really want a game 6 now.

I'm surprised so many people think this because of that. I almost guarantee it was because he got his 100th career playoff point last night.

Will he play next year? Maybe or maybe not, but the picking up of the puck is almost definitely not related in my mind.

It is truly remarkable that our best playoff performer is, statistically and in all other ways, #11. Please, if he must retire, make sure he gets a lifetime job in the Sens front office.

He didn't really say we can't come back. He said he doesn't think we can. Tough mountain to climb, but not an impossible one.

He said the puck was for his kids. Why wouldn't he say it was for his 100th point?

Perhaps because he wasn't thinking about how people would overanalyze his statement. His "100th point" puck can still be for his kids... I'm sure to him, it wouldn't really matter if he kept the "actual" puck, but perhaps its something his kids would like. Hense the statement.

Like I said, doesn't mean he's not done after this season, but I think people are overreacting/overanalyzing this specific situation.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I have no clue what the puck was for.

Just found it odd if it was his 100th career point he wouldn't just say so.

I still feel like maybe just maybe he comes back one more year. With the Olympics and all. But I'll definitely tear up when he retires.

Someone playing at this level with a team on the verge of breaking through... Id be shocked if he retires. I expect one more kick at the can, he is a competitor last night probably took a toll on him. I think he is trying to send a message more then anything.
