Which Bottom 6 Forwards Do You Keep?

Kostin was trusted to play on Drai's line. That's more than good enough. Not sure why you bringing up Frederic's Boston days. We just saw Frederic. He hardly did anything. That's enough sample size to not give him 3.85M. Kostin had a better playoffs with the Oilers haha
Kostin was playing like 4 minutes a night here… and has had what? 5 coaches in 4 years who have all parked him on the bench?

Ya we just saw Frederic coming back from a very difficult injury to bounce back from.

I don’t like Frederic at 3.8 but these players aren’t in the same universe.

Crazy how 1 top 6 forward changes everything. I've been saying it forever......

Ehlers Mcdavid Hyman
Podkolzin Leon Savoie (pods never leaves Leon lol)
Frederick Nuge Tomasek
Who cares line 4

This team beats FLA with a goalie, Even if we dumb Kane, Ekholm, Arvy

I like Nuge at 3C but that opens up a whole in the top 6. Playing Leon with both Savoie and Podkolzin doesn't really make his line any better.

Also, I don't think Frederic is a LW. He probably plays C or RW this year. If Rico is traded, he probably moves to 3C.

Nuge had a down year (kids and getting older) but I expect him to be able to fill that top LW spot with McDavid. If not, you slide him down and try him with Leon and Savoie (hopefully it has that Yamo line vibe).

RNH-McDavid-Hyman
Ehlers-Leon-Savoie
Podkolzin-Frederic-Brown
Kostin-Janmark-Kapanen
Perry-Tomasek

Something like that would look really good.

How about taking a swing at some cheap UFA's for goalie?

First of all if not convicted: Carter Hart

Sloppy seconds: Daniel Vladar, Ville Husso, James Reimer, Anton Forsberg, David Rittich, Cayden Primeau (If not qualified),

Third times a charm: Brandon Bussi, Michael DiPietro, Connor Hughes, Zachary Fucale (Europe), Jakob Allen, Alexander Lyon,

May of fourth be with you: Emil Larmi (Europe), Vladislav Podyapolsky (Europe), Denis Kostin (Europe)
How funny would it be if Zach Fucale ended up backstopping us to a Cup after all of those "almost Oiler" moments back in the day? Vladar would be the next funniest and the Flames deserve it.

Need to find a way to get Auston Matthews. He's our Phil Kessel to McDrai's Crosby/Malkin. Hairline is already heading in the same direction
The funniest scenario is if Marner signs here for like a 10 million per season discount and breaks out in the playoffs. The guy was a terror at 4 Nations. Has the "Leafs winger overhated for team-wide issues+contract drama" things too.

Nuge at 3C is inevitable as he declines.

There were long stretches where he shouldn't have been on 1LW / 1PP this season.

Also behooves us to get younger and speedier in the top 6.

I'd say there's a 99% chance Kyrou doesn't move. They're just doing some silly speculation based on his NTC.

That forward group would be Robert Thomas and a whole lot of nothing without Kyrou.
I also really don't want to see any more NMCs here except for long term core players.

Marner could definitely take 2 year at 10M. Acquire for his rights this offseason and do 14M x 8 after the 2 year deal when the cap is 113M. The deal takes him to 38 and will make a career earning of 200M

McDavid, Drai, Marner all signed for 14M

This is the forward group I’m envisioning. Might be a bit too hopeful because I doubt they move Henrique, but ideally;

RNH - McDavid - Hyman
X - Draisaitl - Savoie/Tomasek
Frederic - Y - Brown
Podkolzin - Janmark - Z

Extra: Perry or Kapanen or Z

X could be someone like Barbashev or Ehlers, Y could be a Glass or Pageau or even Tomasek if Savoie impresses, Z could be Kostin

I could see:

RNH-McDavid-Hyman
LW - Draisaitl - Frederic
Podkolzin - Henrique - Savoie/Tomasek
Janmark-Philp-Brown/Perry

I think they know Draisaitl needs a top 6 winger. If I had to guess, I think it will come at the deadline. I think they will run out cap. Hope I’m wrong.

Guessing for what Frederic is being paid, he will get top 6 time.

Guessing their preference for 3C is Pageau. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s acquired at the deadline.

I think we are only going to have the cap for one of Perry or Brown. I think Perry is the preference. Brown is the fall back.

I could see them looking for cheap guys like Kapanen, Kostin, Glass etc if they are willing to take $1m. I am guessing that guys will be pushed up and around until they get Drai a winger.
