It's actually one way hate. Ovi fans don't care about Sid, but Sid fans jump with hate into Ovi threads with funny narrarives that 'Capitals are just trying to help Ovi to beat Gretzky's record sacrifising the team sucess , when they need to trade Ovi and rebuild'.

But Capitals are on top of Eastern Conference & Ovi leading the league in goals with 15 in 18, has a plus-minus of +15. Meanwhile Penguins are struggling to get to the playoffs spot. If anything it's Penguins need rebuild asap, not the Capitals.

Both played on division rivals for the same team their whole career. Both surpassed unmeetable expectations and set a standard that’s only been challenged by McDavid since they entered the league. Highly unlikely we see another Sid/Ovi dynamic for quite some time, so people should just enjoy them both while they’re still around. Same here, buddy. It's pretty embarrassing in my opinion. At this point in their careers if people can't simply appreciate the incredible display we've seen from these two I question why they even bother watching or participating in discussions. As a hardcore pens fan, I disliked Ovi for a long time, but I can't help but have any feeling about him but absolute adoration. It's amazing to see these two still playing at such an incredibly high level almost 20 years into their respective careers.

I agree.... The insecurity goes both ways. I'm not sure why you're referring to me as "you guys", though. I appreciate Ovi and Sid both in their own rights at this point. They're different styles of players with massively different career trajectories. Neither takes away from the other, IMO. I don't feel the need to desperately prove why I think that one player is better than the other.

I think anyone who is still engaged in this line of rhetoric is absurd. I was simply responding to a guy who is so Ovi-obsessed to the point that it's become an HF meme, trying to pin it all on the 'other side', while actively de-railing many conversations regarding one or the other.
