Is there a narrative that the Capitals are sacrificing everything to get Ovechkin the Goal Record? Is there a double standard with regards to Crosby?

Your valid point was "what if the Caps did completely different things and played their old injured players (but not injured because healthy, also not better because old?)" and "look how lucky it was all this happened".

I replied, you bailed, f*** out of here until you're ready to read it.
I honestly don't even know what you are saying. Its just confusing. Take a breather and let it go if you don't agree with my opinion.

You don't know what I'm saying because you, by your own admission, decided to stop reading to flex with memes instead.
Here is the scenario I want to put out there.…

Oshie and Backstrom never get injured and the Capitals have to carry them this year.

Outside of the better and more ready prospect pool (as stated previously they had much more ammo with draft picks)…

Is the Capitals team really that much different than the Penguins this year?
Can you read your own words instead? Does that help you?

Uh, this is BS. They have good young players and prospects, I don't see how any sort of teardown is in the cards.
Hilarious. What prospects do they have to build around exactly?

Connor McMichael, Aliaksei Protas, Rasmus Dandin, and Hendrix Lapierre?

It's early, but they're going to have the second highest win % in the league after tonight, having beaten 3 other teams in the top 10. Are they sacrificing winning?

Ryan Leonard (8th overall, shouldn't need more explanation, we've all seen him), Ivan Miroshnichenko (hyped potential top 10 draft talent derailed by cancer, now cancer free), Andrew Cristall (small skills guy but 16 points in 6 WHL games is worth note)

Then younger Protas who is lighting up the OHL right now, the other Hutson, and some lottery ticket picks like Parascak and it's not like it's all that bleak in Capsland. They've also gone for some riskier boom or bust picks like Cam Allen which I have no strong faith in, but will only be happily surprised if wrong.

The point that most are missing in this thread is the Caps are attempting to do both.

Whether it works is up for debate. I don’t anticipate they do any damage in the playoffs (and even making it might not be in the cards) but they’re trying to develop some young guys, ice a competitive roster and help Ovechkin get the record.

They’ve made some smart signings, and they’ve gambled some of the younger guys they do have will get better. If McMichael and Protas make jumps, they’re much better off than many figured. Its still really early

Do NOT look up these players' point totals so far this year.
Yeah, they've both been really good. I do think the Caps are going to have to figure out a way to get that one franchise player that makes everyone better by demanding all the attention, but the surrounding cast is in place for the next really competitive run.

and that's why this thread is bunk.

They can roll the dice and be wrong, but if people aren't seriously contemplating which UFAs the Caps can sign with 17m in upcoming cap space they're not thinking through the entirety of the equation here.

I think a lot of the first message could been clearer about the aging Crosby-Malkin and penguins staying in we can win it all-mode too long (until the Guentzel trade when it stopped being sustainable), with a couple of example.

I feel lot of people thought he was talking about some Crosby record, if a team make bad decision trying to win the cup it would obviously be different than making bad decision trying for individual record to some people.

McMichael and Protas both scored tonight, lol.

McMichael is over a PPG, and Protas is one point away from PPG.

Watch some hockey before posting next time.

(oh also Ovi had a goal and two assists)

Respond to anything I've said (and actually address it) before you try taking this high road.

You can't tl;dr a post and then act like everyone's out to get you, this is normally how cowards get treated when they bail out of arguments, and then they lash out at other folks that aren't even doing the main body of work...

Capitals fans saw a championship which is more than 1/3 of the NHL has ever seen and many teams have seen in decades. Surrounded by lots of early exists but 2018 happened so everything else is gravy.

So what is the goal this year? Wild card at best? Likely miss and have a middle of the pack pick again. If it happens, no one is complaining, but lets not pretend that management went ham to make a real run at the Cup.

It's early, but they're playing like a legit contender right now. Watch some hockey.

I honestly don't care if you guys continue to waste your time responding to me. I owe you nothing nor need to respond to your comments.

If you don't like what I am saying, you can simply put me on ignore if it gets you that upset.

lol nothing about this is upsetting, it's message boards on my weekend, this is about as voluntary as it gets. You trying to take this stance only underscores how little you're willing to engage in the real topic, because I asked you a handful of questions, got no answers, and now you're... doing this.

Don't ask if you don't want to know, and definitely don't get sensitive when people tell you. I'll be here if you want to back up your bullshit.

And the Avalanche cant beat anyone while having two players tied for 1-2 in scoring and a third in the top 10. Which is more likely to sustain for the entire season?

Connor McMichael is playing really well right now. He's taken a huge step forward. He's approaching that Philip Forsberg caliber of player.
