Is there a bigger homer announcer than Jack Edwards?

He is one of the few announcers who does not sound like his wife died when the opposing team scores.

Somewhat this. Jack Edwards is a huge tool when it comes to pretty much anything hockey related, but usually when they other team scores he still seems excited but you can tell there's pain in his voice.

In short, Edwards is definitely a massive homer just like those penguin guys.

I hate the Bruins, but I don't see why people hate their home PBP man when the guy never does national broadcast.

Lol between this call and the ‘trip’ call last night those two pigeons in stripes should be filling out resumes today.

Jack IS a homer. This isn’t telling Bruin fans something they already know. At least he acknowledges there is another team on the ice most nights.

I’ve watched enough CBC Toronto games to know what I’m getting in to there. You’d swear it was a one team scrimmage for all the talk they give anyone not in a blue jersey.
Jim Hughson is a Leafs fan?

Why the **** do people care about Jack Edwards this much? You know his shtick but do you really need to make this thread every time he is being a homer?
I've been on this site a long time and it's pretty much a given that an Edwards thread pops up at least once a month during the season. Then it goes into butthurt overdrive closer to the playoffs.

Tampa Bay radio crew are pretty funny. I remember listening to their calls of other team goals being made fun of on the local sports radio morning show.

Boston guy is bad. Oiler color guy was absolutely terrible, but he (Remenda) was replaced this year. Jim Hughson is a huge Canucks homer, that clip of him talking about the Jets is nothing.

Thing is, Hughson is actually really good, he just shouldn't be near a Canucks broadcast.

Edwards is a bit weird. I feel like most of the time he's actually very good, informed, fair and respectful at his job, just in general nice to listen to, but then when things get testy and emotional, he absolutely loses his mind and becomes a total clown. Those are of course the times when these type of threads are made, so that's what people who don't watch him a lot know about him.

Exactly how I feel. Edwards does a pretty good job all game then theres a fight and its like hes a kid watching his Dad fight and then talking about how tough he is or something. Hes not too bad outside of some of the rough stuff.

I've always thought Tyson Nash is pretty bad for the Coyotes

Yeah, for the thousandth time, he is a homer.
I love him because he pisses off buttercups and snowflakes.
Get over it.

He's the best commentator in the league. Knows his stuff, gets excited on both sides, exponentially increases the entertainment value.

Creating threads for this... the officials didn't deserve to be employed after this one but that is a different matter. This was a great call by Edwards on the off chance the NHL tunes in to the different feeds. Maybe some disciplinary action for the officials.

The original call was blown. The 10 minute misconduct, which as the all that seemed to really bother Edwards, was warranted, and whether it was warranted has nothing to do with whether the original call was correct. Showing up officials accomplishes nothing and egregious examples are penalized.

It is fun for rival fanbases to not like Edwards and he can be annoying at times but when a different team's TV crew is this upsetting to you....

It would take someone actually watching Bruins games to grasp this but he often gets over excited fawning over other teams and their goals. Few homer crews do that.

This specific example too, is such a reach. Post a Greg Campbell fight if you want to support this... original... theory of yours.

I just don't want my PBP guy to act/sound like an annoying fan. Stick to calling the game.

I want to say John Shorthouse for the Canucks...is the complete opposite
Sometimes he even sounds too enthusiastic when the other team scores

Jack's certainly a homer, and often over the top, but he genuinely loves the game & really knows his stuff. Also, he gets really excited for the other team quite a bit. In the playoffs a few years ago, Stamkos took a puck to the face & then came back into the game: Jack had an orgasm, gushed over Stamkos the rest of the game, and brings it up nearly every time we've played them since.

He's over the top because he strikes me as a massive hockey fan & that he knows he has the greatest job in the world; sometimes he might forget he's a professional & not yelling at his TV at home.

Meh... so what? I’m a Bruins fan, and if the announcer is also, that’s fine with me. I actually prefer it that way. As long as he’s not sugar-coating the team too much when they’re bad (I understand he works for the Bruins), I’m ok with it. If Jack Edwards bothers other fans, I’m ok with that, too. He doesn’t work for the other teams and he doesn’t work for a network that does ‘national’ games.

To what another poster said about Scott Zolak - yes he’s a colossal Patriots homer. He has a passion for football and LOVES the Patriots. It’s genuine with Scott, and not a schtick.

He’s not really an announcer, per se, but Don Cherry is a total Boston honk from what I’ve seen of him. He also doesn’t hide that he loves the Maple Leafs, too. Wears his homerism right on his multicolored sleeve for everyone to see.

Its not about him being a homer, it’s about how unprofessional that sounded that he took his Homerism to an amateur level.

At least that’s the way I interpreted this.
