Is the Bruins loss the biggest choke job ever?

Still, I would rather be competitive and take these lumps from time to time than be a fan of one of the irrelevant teams of most of the fans dunking in this thread are.
This X100. Got to love fans talking 💩 when their team couldn't even qualify for the playoffs, or in some cases have won a single playoff series in 19 years. The damned Seattle Kraken have won just as much in their 2 years of existence :biglaugh:

I mean to be fair, we went 3-1 against Toronto in the regular season and nearly swept them. We were also even with Tampa in the regular season last year and got swept.

Regular season matchups aren't always a good indicator.
Fair enough, but much better than putting so much weight behind how each team did against everybody else during the regular season.

No, it’s a parity driven league.

It’s a shame what happened to Boston, you want to see a team like that rewarded with a Cup Finals.
Yes indeed, it is a "parity driven league", but still, 1st vs 17th should represent something that's outside of that parity. That said, with respect to this being the biggest "choke job" of all time, it's debatable due to how Florida has played since the 5th game of that 1st Round series. It could be said to be just as much an 'amazing turnaround' performance by Florida as it could be said to be a "choke job" by Boston. I mean, Boston seemed almost unbeatable during the Regular Season, and now Florida seems almost unbeatable in the Playoffs. Let's hold off and see how the rest of the Playoffs go for Florida before there's a final verdict on this topic/thread.

I think it was a choke by Boston even if Florida has reverted to Presidents trophy form this postseason.

They were up 3-1

Marchand couldn’t complete the breakaway and Ullmark choked in Game 5 OT

The Bruins had a 3rd period lead in game 6 and then had the DeBrusk finger touch “hand pass” take away a two goal lead. Then they gave up three unanswered goals. Choke.

In game 7 they had a third period lead and Carlo hit a cross bar. Then they gave up the tying goal with 57 seconds left. Choke.

As with any 7 game series that ends in OT, there were plenty of moments that could have gone another way. It makes it feel better that Florida is actually good, but it doesn’t change that the Bruins were a better team and should have closed it out.

Well the Bruins have been an enviable team and franchise for awhile, so it's only fair that everyone wants to take a shit on them in their moment of weakness.

It'd be a bigger choke job if Florida proved to be a bad team by getting swept in the next round. Considering they almost swept Toronto and might sweep Carolina I'd say that lets Boston off the hook a bit.

People often look at standings as if those are the teams making it. Not sure in Boston’s case this year, but in the season the Sharks won the president’s trophy and lost to Anaheim in the 1st round, the Sharks were an injured group while the Ducks were healthier and still had Pronger and Niedermayer.

Yea but Florida exposed some major cracks in Boston's defense. Carolina for example has handled their forecheck way better than Boston did. Problem is they can't score.

Boston should have been way more willing to dump it to center when Florida got the forecheck going. A team with McAvoy, Orlov, Lindholm and Gryz was just so used to moving the puck at will. And they didn’t adjust. Not sure if it was coaching or stubbornness.

I would be sick if I was a bruins fan. That team was incredible, and they had the panthers on the ropes. Marchand not scoring on a breakaway in dying moments of game 5 going on to lose in OT. Losing game 6 while scoring 5 goals on bobrovsky. Even in game 7 they let it slip away. No one can score on bobrovsky anymore and he’s taking them to the final. This cup could have been the bruins in a walk and they let it slip away again.
10 years ago I probably would’ve been sick.

Now it’s kinda like, ya, that went exactly to script with Boston.

Outside of 2011, they’ve been extremely successful at flirting with the prom queen only to end up taking that quiet, lonely ride home in the backseat of their parents car.

Not sure. Before the season started no one expected the Bruins to be this good. They just had a great regular season but weren’t the 2002 Red Wings or something…

The bergeron-era Bruins have been full of chokes. Reverse sweep, 2013 scf, 2019 scf, and now this season, to name a few. They're lucky they won thanks to another team choking bigger than they did.

I warned bruin fans in pre-game 1 thread to prepare to watch their team lose the series. Instead of bruin fans thanking me for trying to educate them, they mocked me. Look who was right in the end. I am an expert on bruin topics.
Yep you sure know how to win watching the Leafs ....
