Idiot, imbecile, moron. Lots of words fit Dahlin’s lack of hockey smarts. Lots of physical gifts though. Don’t know if his physical gifts can overcome his lack of brains though.

Dahlin with another stupid late penalty with the Sabres in a tight one versus the Sharks last night.

Of course it didn’t matter as much as the 2 hits, 2 points, and 5 shots as he went +3 in 25 minutes of a 4-2 victory.

His good plays far outnumber the gaffs and they have for quite some time now.

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that people will continue to undervalue him until the Sabres break through or he goes elsewhere, just like they did Eichel and Reinhart.

It’s why no one is talking about the run of 17 points in 13 games he’s on since he recovered from a training camp injury. They pretend he’s soft or bad defensively while ignoring where he ranks in terms of shot share, or hits.

19 points, 22 hits, 32 blocked shots, +5, 59% Corsi for, +1 penalties drawn/taken, 24:45 minutes per game

19 points, 3 hits, 20 blocked shots, +4, 61% Corsi for, even penalties drawn/taken, 24.15 minutes per game.

One is the best defenceman in the NHL. The other is Rasmus Dahlin.

This thread seems like the classic reverse jinx. He has certainly been churning along since.

Such a cancerous thread (great job OP) with the most reactionary takes.

Generational Player - No.

Elite Player who is still only 24 yo and now has his first legit coach since entering the league - Yes.

I still remember the media talking about Dahin like he was a rare generational D talent.

The Media needs to stop doing this sh** and overhyping guys. It doesn't really help them.

Found it pretty interesting how a significant portion of highlight reel plays every season seem to come from Dahlin getting embarrassed.

Considering he’s been one of the best dmen in the league so far this year I would say he’s doing ok in spite of apparently being an idiot, imbecile and a moron.

I was really hoping the Sabres would decide to trade the idiot to the Jets when this thread was started. His underlying numbers have drastically improved these last 3 seasons, and this season looked a lot more like a good player getting some bad bounces than a bad D-man.

Alas, once again, a GM has refused to use the information posted on here to make a trade that favors my favorite team.

All 3 of Buffalos D have been carrying the team in Tages absence. Dahlin is a big reason the Sabres have turned it around lately after a bad start. All 3 are up there in even strength points for a Dmen and Byram has excelled specifically when he was moved up with Dahlin.

Dahlin was about a clear of a future #1 D as you could project going into this draft. 5 points in 14 games in the SHL playoffs as a 16 year old, then vaults himself into a top 4 role on that team the next year at 17. 6'3, and had incredible skating. As a prospect, he was looked at as generational because he had every physical attribute you could want, and the production to show he could apply it.

He had a terrible string of coaches and teammates until Granato, who was able to really develop him into a true #1D. He will end his career (barring injury) with 1400 games and probably 1100 points. Generational? Likely not. Top top end and potentially HOF? Maybe.

The doghouse
He’s still projecting out to be a franchise number one defensmen. He’s not generational though. But still a stud that will get you 20 goals, 60-80 points, while playing physical and above average defense. Prone to mistakes, penalties, and isn’t a shut down guy in his own zone

He still has the best body of work as a prospect than any D ever drafted since....him. And tops the list on the vast majority of D prospects who came before him

Although Landon Dupont might dethrone him on that

Dahlin is prone to occasional gaffes, and dumb penalties, while being elite at pretty much everything else.
While playing on a sad sack franchise every night for 6 years now logging huge minutes. He's not a robot and these guys are paid huge sums but it's gotta take a toll mentally on a guy logging 25 a game , playing at a really high level and not getting rewarded for it much in terms of team success( No offense to the buffalo sabres and their fans i think everybody would like to see them do good )

Uh... Brooklyn!
he's a thoroughbred that every team wants, I think the heat comes from media and the internet, its his first captaincy, was probably just trying to hard, sick of losing, just needed a little time

it's like at your job when the new young gun gets the big promotion, wants to change the whole world, when in reality just needed to go back to what he does best, and do that hockey
