Is Matthews the worst playoff performer ever?

That's the difference, I'm referring to real life. No need to share more of your internet browsing habits. Matthews has got a free pass for 9 years, and is still being protected.
He's still getting a free pass right now by his fanboys because of the mystery injury.

Leafs are actually playing decent for once, they could really use him , kinda sad

Matthews being criticized on live television with millions of viewers isn't real life?

But I am sure you and your "real life" biddies are a more representative sample. Somehow.

When did that happen? This year? And with or without mentioning this mystery injury that has been a thing every season?

How about when he was made captain? Was this mentioned? How about when he was signed to the highest cap hit in the league? No it wasn't.

Please continue to tell me about the market I LIVE IN about how they talk about MY TEAM. :biglaugh:

Maybe you're protective over him because he's only let team USA down 2 out of 2 times so you're under the impression that he's something he's not.

this is the guy "nostrils" that TSN said has the best chance of beating Ovi's record
what a crock
Technically he is, he's younger than Drai and Pastrnak and has more goals. Those are the only players with a chance if scoring suddenly goes hyperbolic

If McDavid , Hyman, and Reinhart have 60 goal seasons then its possible if NHL enters a higher scoring era. Ovechkin hit 60 one time he got his record from pure consistency of hitting 50 goal paces and staying healthy which is impressive.

I'd say we sign Rantenan and let others walk. You can't support five guys with cap restrictions. If we lose Tavares and Marner won't get signed.

Anyways he honestly might be, but he has the talent to go on a run and erase all of that.

It's insane that nearly 150 players have outscored him considering he is legit one of the greatest scorers in season history (factoring his age), 6th fastest to 400 and getting outscored by 150 guys is abysmal.

The Leafs pp going 0/30 in elimination games is also equally abysmal. How does that even happen with Matthews/Marner/Tavares/Nylander? Even if they man to man Matthews, the other 3 should feast on the 4 on 3 and all Matthews has to do is hit the open man.

The problem with Matthews is he has had 1 maybe 2 great playoff series, never anything remotely close to his obviously generational game breaking talent. You can give him a mulligan for this year because he's hurt, even last year, but where tf was he before that?

He might even be worse than Helle who at least has had a few runs and great playoffs which is saying something.

It's crazy he hasn't had a stretch where he has put up some absurd numbers he is capable of, even the team should feast if teams will man to man him because it's not like it's just him and one other guy. You can't leave Nylander/Marner/Tavares entirely open either.

Again it's Toronto which is the softest/easiest market to play in because of how hard we simp for anybody with talent, so we're obviously the most forgiving fans in all of sports, so all we want is one cup and one amazing run, but that may be too much to ask from Matthews. Nobody in Toronto even cares he's bad this year because we're so forgiving but this guy has NEVER shown up.

He has 58 pts in 65 playoff games..............scoring 25 goals.

He has been ok in the playoffs, but the higher expectation with just cause is warranted.
He needs to be better....if he is injured, that may be an issue this year, but not the past 7-8 seasons.

In regards to Sid and OV, you're pulling averages from the careers of two guys in their late 30s vs. superstars in their prime

Preface: This isn’t a hate on Crosby post. I’m merely checking out this claim.

Sounds like a good argument on the surface for Crosby, until we actually look at the numbers and wipe clean everything he did after his age 30 season aka the 571 points he scored in 488 regular season games and the 16 points he put up in 20 playoff games, from the age 31 through present day.

Regular season through age 30: 1,116 points in 864 games for 1.292 PPG, or 105.92 points/82 games

Playoffs through age 30: 185 points in 160 games for 1.156 PPG, or 94.8 points/82 games.

A 10.5% decline in production from regular season to postseason through age 30, which is exactly the same as taking his entire career into account. In other words, a normal, expected, even accepted dip in regular season to postseason numbers.

Debunked.

TLDR: I took a look at Crosby’s numbers through the end of his prime to see if his overall career numbers were dragging down his earlier production and found this wasn’t the case.

It's kind of endearing that you seem to think that the market you are living in doesn't make enough noise to be heard loud and clear anywhere where people watch the NHL.

You can try responding to something I say next time instead of writing whatever this is supposed to be.

I am sure you can google the countless articles from 2018-2024 lambasting Matthews for his playoff performances.

Oh, wait, I forgot, the internet isn't real life, so only your anecdotal evidence counts. Well, anecdotally, I know a guy who has been calling Matthews a playoff choker for many years now, so Q.E.D.

He doesn’t have a 6th gear and d spite his size doesn’t play nasty. Thats all there is to it, his 5th gear is better than most of the league, but when it gets tighter he doesn’t push through it.

Nylander is a better playoff performer then Matthews, and regardless of of the totals when the games tighten he still finds a way
