So the guy who was preaching for months on how there was no way the Kings would be a Top 10 drafting team and are guaranteed to make the playoffs is probably hiding.

If you are referring to me, please find me a single message where I said the Kings would not be drafting top 10 and/or were guaranteed to make the playoffs.

I'm not. I don't track people's posts either. I am not into stalking posters. I just remembered this one guy saying over and over and over how the Kings were basically guaranteed to make the playoffs and there was no way that they would be a top 10 drafting team because they were playing so many bad teams. I went back and forth a few times with them over the course of the season and they never moved off that hill that they eventually died on.

If you post on messageboards you have to accept that there are going to be a lot of people ranging from eternal optimists to straight up Baghdad Bob style kool-aid drinking homers. Some people view sports as an escape and don't wish to bring negativity they may have in their own lives to a messageboard to talk about their favorite team.

And hell it shouldn't deter the discussion, some of my favorite posters here fall into at the very least eternal optimists with some bordering on sipping the kool-aid.

Gary at the podium - "We have a trade to announce! The Los Angeles Kings have acquired Jack Eichel and Rasmus Ristolainen from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for their 2021 first and second round draft picks, 2022 first round draft pick, Alex Turcotte, and Adrian Kempe."

Pass. We need cost controlled assets and adding Ristolenen does nothing to fix our defense. Eichel has proven he can't carry a team. The Kings will just end up as the Sabres 2.0 but with less cap space.

If the Kings won't offer QB and no other team offers an elite blue chip prospect or Buffalo doesn't want to trade him to the East this could actually work. At first I thought Buff might not want Kempe if they blow it up since he is a bit older, but they are still going to have to ice a team next season, and if Kempe gets PP time and produces they could flip him at the deadline.

The Kings end up losing a pick this year that would probably produce their #1 d prospect if they kept it, they lose Turcotte but with C being the only area of organizational strength its managable, Kempe is what he is. I think the only way this trade could really be a big loss is if Buffalo hit big with either this years pick, or more than likely next years pick. But I have a hard time seeing a Kings team with Eichel and Kopitar down the middle being bad enough where that pick is in the top half of the first.

Some teams really struggle to find elite C's, the Kings would have two of them on the NHL roster and another player knocking on the door with elite potential in QB.

I’m way higher on Eichel than most in our forum, when fully healthy he is easily a top 10 center in the league, maybe top 5. He’s a superstar on a normal team. I think Kempe would really flourish in Buffalo, and I could see him putting up 35 goals there next season. I don’t see him as a throw in at all. Byfield is untouchable, I would never do a deal that would include him. Kopitar is great, but I’m thinking Eichel and Byfield as 1/2 for the next 10 years. I don’t see any other team with a prospect of Byfield’s caliber offering them up. Like Anaheim, there’s no way they offer up Zegras.

The same doctors on these boards are the same ones who thought Carter was done.

I am with you, Kings getting Eichel or Dahlin via trade is the best thing this franchise could this offseason. Anything other than Byfield should be on the table.

I think there will be a run on Dmen and the Kings will be just outside of getting one. So hopefully one of Eklund or Guenther drop to where the Kings are picking.

In an ideal world I'd want the Kings to either take one of the 4 Defensemen that are at the top of the draft, Guenther, Eklund or Wallstedt. If not I'm absolutely fine with trading the pick

Could not agree more.

This type of player is not available everyday day. He is a tremendous talent. If you have an opportunity to acquire a player of this caliber, you definitely throw your hat into the ring.

I'm fine with hat in the ring.

I'm not fine with house and car keys in the ring.

You mean kind of like Ziggy Palffy? That didn't work out too well did it? 3 playoff appearances, 1 series win, and two first round exits.

My contention is the this team is not done rebuilding because there are too many holes on D and in net. Cal Petersen is not the future.

HFBoards - "Kings have the best prospect pool in the entire league, we're stacked!"

Also HFBoards - "You can't trade away one of our 15 center prospects, that would set us back years!"

:snide:

I don't think we have the best prospect pool. We don't have any top flight defense prospects whereas Ottawa, Rangers and even Ducks do.
