is it time to eat crow about Dwight King?

He's really forming quite the bit of chemistry with Kopitar and Carter. He was a beast during the 2012 playoff run and I never agreed with those who wanted to jettison him out of LA when he suffered through his sophomore slump. Same happened with Nolan and Clifford. Hell, neither King nor Nolan have played a full NHL schedule yet. Now we get to see just how good they could be over the course of an entire season.

It's weird. He used to have so many issues receiving a pass, was good along the boards but his puck possession imo was average. Now all of a sudden, this year, he's making plays left and right, it's night and day. Really appreciating his game this year. I don't think he's a career top 6'er going forward, but he's filling in quite nicely.

Not completely sold on him being a top 6 indefinitely, I still think we need an elite lw, but hes definitely proved that hes the best LW on our roster and hes earned his time on the first line.

I always supported Sutter in his choices and now feel vindicated. Was actually going to start my own thread on this but I see someone beat me to it.

The comment I remember most was something like "What does Sutter see in this big dumb kid?" Wasn't too long ago. Don't remember who wrote that.

You guys need to stop playing NHL 14 where King probably has something like a 67 rating. He may not be the best puck handler out there, but his vision makes up for it. He's the Purcell that we never had.

He's come a long way from his first call up, that's for sure. Taught us fans something about patience.

I call him Farm Animals. Prior to this season, the only reason why I could even imagine he belonged in the NHL was because he had naked photos of Sutter with some of his favorite barnyard critters. Guess what....I still call him that. Good first half of the season....lets see him do it in the playoffs again and next year before I go all ape **** for him.

His scoring is a direct result of Brown's lack of scoring. He wouldn't even have the opportunity to play with these All Star players if Brown was doing his job on the ice.

Amazing how the two big number contracts Deano signed last offseason have been at best inconsistent this season down to downright cr@ppy.

Yeah, it's insane. I've seen more tic-tac-toe touch passes from those three in the last several games than we ever saw from even William-Brown-Kopitar. Carter got stuffed on it, but when Kopitar fed King in front of the net who REDIRECTED IT BETWEEN HIS OWN LEGS to Carter I was like whoa, we have a top-6er after all.

 ouch, it hurts so good

Wow, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed, eh?

Usually love your posts, can't disagree with you more on this one.

Well, except maybe the farm animals.

Dwight King's numbers:
35gp 9g 6q 15pts
on pace for: 82gp 21g 14a 35pts

This looks more like a 3rd liner production, so I don't know why all the hype for King. He isn't playing bad, but he still is a bottom 6 forward.

If the third part on a line with Kopitar and Carter is getting 20 goals, I'd say that's a dangerous line, especially since at the very least, Kopi is a lock for 20 and Carter is a lock for 25-30.

I'd also assume his assist pace will go up playing with those two. Anyone know when that line STARTED? could maybe pull his pace from then.

I feel like all this hoopla about how King was criticized by certain posters is a passive aggressive attempt at calling someone out. Who exactly were the culprits? Start naming names so we can have them executed. The Kings board is the North Korea of HF.

I will eat some crow, but I still have some slight doubts. The doubts probably are not logical though. Also, I wouldn't go so far to calling him a LEGIT top 6 guy. Great third liner or capable top sixer seems like a better description for his skill set. He's in the right situation.

I am going to have Dwight's babies

Isn't that how all players get their opportunity, when someone else isn't pulling the weight? At least he took advantage of his opportunity and didn't go all Matt Frattin.

I still like Frattin but he didn't do anything when he had the chance. King did.

I don't know if people need to eat crow. He's seems to be rounding into a certain NHLer in some capacity though.

He's still only 24, and he still hasn't played the equivalent of 2 full NHL seasons yet. He burst on the scene after Sutter became the coach. He had the huge series against the Coyotes. All of that in 27 of his first 33 NHL games, and first 20 playoff games. The bar may have been set a little too high.

Comes back down to Earth last year, and then he's deemed useless all of a sudden. Now he seems to have found a groove with Kopitar and Carter.

Today he's a Top 6 guy. At the start of the season, he was the second worst forward on the team, behind Kopitar of course. Last year, awful. The year before that, he's the guy with the kind of production in the playoffs that every Cup winner must have.

He's played 115 games. He was a 4th round pick, 109th overall. If you take a breath, relax, and let coaches do some coaching over a period of time, what I imagine is a player coaches love in a guy like Dwight King can maybe turn into a decent player. No need to label him exactly this or that so early. Let it play out.

Hey remember when Dwight King got called up a few years ago and was playing with Kopitar? I think Terry Murray was still the coach. Man, he was awful then. Guess he learned a thing or two about a thing or two since then. Honestly, Jordan Nolan has impressed me more this year. The guy looks like a completely different player.

Actually, he's only recently started scoring points on that line. He had 4 points although that was largely from that hat trick with Kopitar to start the first month. Then he had 7 points spread over the next month playing with Richards and Toffoli. Then the current lines formed on Dec 2nd and he was scoreless until the Ottawa game when he had three points and he had a goal last night. So 4 points total this month so far. So I'm not sure what kind of pace you can get from that

He had a bad season last year, but this year he came back in shape. And is on the puck, putting pressure on the defense, and causing turnovers. Sutter should give him some power play time, let him stand in front of the net, and look for rebounds and tip ins.

Nolan is another one. He was a 7th round pick, 186th overall, and only after last night has he played in 98 regular season games. That's like November of his 2nd full year in the league.

It's weird to think about sometimes, because the Kings have been so successful the last 2 years. Some of the guys on this team are still fairly inexperienced players, in terms of the number of games they've played(not necessarily in the kind of games they've played in).

Clifford, he's played just under the equivalent of 3 full years. He's ragged on constantly, but he's barely been in the league. Lewis, under 3 full years. Nolan, King, Voynov, Muzzin, all well under 2 full years. Throw Toffoli in there if you want. Maybe Vey. Frattin has only played 108 games. Martinez, barely 2 full years. Even Doughty, at 399, that's almost 5 full years. That's 1/3 to almost half the roster, depending on where you cut it off.
