Is it time for Lou to get his walking papers

I said signing Schneider was great playing Marty stinks

Marty is the only reason we are sniffing the playoffs at this point. That and Jagr stepping up along with Gelly and the kids on the blue line.

You can blame Pete for overplaying Harrold and Gionta, but Janssen? Lou's obsession with giving the team an "enforcer" goes back long before Pete was ever coach, and Lou is the one who called Cam up from Albany.

In the bigger picture, unless a team is totally dysfunctional, the coach and GM have conversations about the roster.

Perhaps you're right.

But I don't know anymore.

All I know is this : Lou may have made some blunders in his time here but he has had more of a Positive impact than Pete has. Now that's probably not fair considering how long Lou has been here but it's worth noting that all sports are Results-Driven. And if a team struggles, the first person that suffers the consequences is ALWAYS going to be the Head Coach, not GM.

The whole point of this entire thread was whether Lou should be fired or not. The answer to that is a resounding 'No'. But not because there is a reason for him to be fired or not.....

It's because his overall resume makes him semi-bulletproof at this point of his career. Add to that the New Owners who are just getting settled in, and it's a good bet that Pete *will* be getting the heave-ho way sooner than Lou will(if he ever does, which is unlikely).

Yea, Schneider getting shutouts has nothing to do with it

Schneider had 1 win until about a week ago. People need to stop sweating him like he did anything significant. You can't blame Cory, but let's be honest, the guy we wanted to retire brought in 7 wins and the golden new toy brought in 1. I don't want to turn this into a argument about "who had tougher opponent" or "better save percentage" or "more scoring", lets just be real here for a minute.

He might be referring to Marty's 7-2-1 .947 Save Pct. stretch.

Cory has been lights out he just wasn't getting any support.

Yes that stretch saved us, he loses a pair of games and suddenly people forget he carried us for a month.

Well sure. That's a very simplistic way of looking at it though. Maybe appropriately so considering how desperate the team was at that point. No one cared about anything but wins and losses.

But now we can look at everything in perspective and realize that though Cory wasn't winning games, he certainly did play very very well. It's not exactly entirely his fault that the team wasn't scoring from him. You can certainly argue that Marty's stick-handling aids the offense, but that shouldn't be what separates professional ice hockey players from scoring 5 and getting shutout.

Back then - sure - start Marty until he falters. Well, he has faltered a bit. So now you can look back, thank the old man for his work, and realize that we have a capable goalie who can probably outperform him on any given night. You certainly can't hold anything against Cory, like you said.

I think it was just poor word choice. He wrote "Marty is the only reason" and then jotted down other reasons why we won those games.

I think it's certainly fair to say Marty's a big part of why we're not in last place. That stretch was phenomenal. A .947 save percentage is Godly.

Marty has really tailed off since that Anaheim game. I remember him letting in a bad one early in the game, but looking good the rest of the game. That was the first bad one he allowed in about a month. He was really good in the San Jose game I thought. The 3 games after that he's been really underwhelming. Seems he's letting in one bad goal per game now. Maybe that shot to the head from Burns has been having some effects?

Marty losing 4 in a row us sniffing the playoffs?

The reason we are even in the playoffs hunt is the poor play of all the other teams in the Metro Division. Maybe you have reviewed the standings.

Johnyrocket has stated that he believes Marty is better now than he was 10 years ago. I'm not surprised with him crediting Marty like that.

Though to be fair, Marty was absolutely on fire for a month. Now he looks a little tired.

You're complaining a lot and it's as if you felt there were other options that would have improved the team.

If that's the case, then what were those options?

It's like you're stranded on a desert island with someone. The person finds food for you. You look at the food and you're all like "well this food sucks. you could've done better." Person looks at you dumbfounded wondering what other options you have on this desert island. Asks you for what you would do in his situation.

And you're all like "well that doesn't matter. Are you fine eating this crap?"

It certainly matters what you would have done differently. Or you're just complaining for the sake of complaining.

Yesterday is gone it never comes back so what you want is a waste of time.

How do you not see the problem here? You're just complaining without any sort of suggestion as to what Lou could have done differently.

Reads like a comic strip. I don't mean to offend you or anything but really, without any sort of explanation as to what Lou could have done, how are we progressing?

Do you at least agree that IF Lou had no better options that he doesn't deserve the hate? Because unless you can dispute that this is all pretty ridiculous.

Some of the people that are pushing for Lou to step down/fired, I guarantee will be the FIRST ones complaining about the moves the new GM would make if Lou is replaced.

You know what they say...

It's easy to complain when you sit on the sidelines.

Substantive criticism I understand. But I'm waiting for someone to tell me what Lou should have done.

At least abo's criticisms of Lou have merit. You can certainly argue that "Devil's Hockey" has been passed over by 29 other teams in the league and we need a new philosophy. That's fair.

But the whole "Lou failed at assembling a team! I have nothing to say as far as what I would have done differently but he failed!!!" doesn't sit well with me.

My biggest problem (Other than the 29th pick) with Lou right now. Janssen still in the lineup nightly. Kinda gotta wonder if this is a Pete decision more than anything.

I'm thinking Lou is gonna wait until teams starts separating themselves in this division before Lou makes any kind of a move. Whether it's a trade, or maybe calling up Whitney or Boucher (Hope not Boosh) from Albany.

Then accept what we have anon playoff team.

thank you!

deadline rolls around he will ship out more draft picks for some 3rd line role player like poni. in the attempt to get this team to the playoffs. so he saves face for not giving up the pick 2 years ago.

making the playoffs is our stanley cup this year

i love love love loooooooooooooooooooooooove when people in support of lou defense is "what would you have done?"

answer i have no freaking clue. i'm sorry but i do i have a life/job and a family i'm trying to start. if you want to pay me i will be more then happy to look over nhl player statistics for the past 5 years. i will see who is out there that could help us out.

unless your qualified in the job you can't judge how someone goes about doing it. that goes for any job anywhere. you can however judge his performance in his decisions just like you can with any job. how has that performance been in the past 10 years? o i forgot x amount of division titles 1 cup run he's been doing a bang up job! never mind that he is also the only person around that seems to be driving people out of this franchise year after year!

you people are devil fans right? you dont think lou has a hand on who sits and starts? your nuts if thats the case!

whoever posted that talendar trade opened the door for gelinas your wrong it was the injuries to salvador that opened the door. resigning harrold kept gelinas out of the lineup

re signing Harrold actually kept Urbom out of the lineup and forced him to be waived. Big deal, he wasn't that good anyway. If not for him being waived, we have no Gelinas with the NHL club.

Both of our goaltenders are playing lights out. Rest of the team is the issue. On a 'I want Lou gone thread' - this is the wrong debate, as I don't think Lou has a say on the day-to-day tender situation.

:handclap:

Just like belly buttons and ***holes. Everyone's got one.

I'm even willing to give Lou the benefit of the doubt on the pick29 fiasco at this point. MyToe is coming around in the AHL. If he ever progresses to the big leagues, he is actually the one forward who is perfect for Pete's system.

I'm sure he'll be a 40 goal scorer to replace Kovy. :sarcasm:

Edit:Ok, I had to self-star that one... where is my censor?

but, hey, stranger things have happened (see Clarkson, David - 40 goal scorer)...

Marty hasn't played "lights out" in the last 4 games.

As for the Lou debate you are so wrong so many times it's sicking.
