I am the one that started this thread. Lou is President and GM he has his finger into everything because he is a control freak. That being said he lost Parise and didn't replace him or his goal/assist replacement, he lost Sykora and didn't replace him or his goal/assist production, he lost Clarkson and replaced him with Clowe with a contract that was just awful, too much money and too long. I stated this the day he signed him and said that Clowe wouldn't and couldn't replace Clarkson production. Lou knew that Zajac and Henrique production was down. Lou knew for 7 or 8 months that Kovy was leaving and it wouldn't surprise me that Lou was happy about that and help him leave because of his contract and Jeff Vanderbeek financial position and problems. Lou signed a bunch of players really not knowing who would work out. He signed Schneider to add to the winning but then goes along with playing Marty who is on a losing cycle. He didn't have a plan to make up for the lost goals and assists other than he kept his finger crossed hoping some of his cheap selections would out outdoing themselves and produce. So Lou needs to take ownership and have a plan for a possible failure of his original thinking but it appears he doesn't have one other than to put Janssen on the ice and play Marty out of loyalty. Every plan needs a backup and the Devils need one desperately. Lou can't take action against DeBoer because he provided the mess with the offense players. Jagr worked out but everything other than Schneider has been a bust. Should Lou be fired, of course not, retired and before he retires get him some help to right the ship today before they lose all their paying fans, yes.

What would you have done any differently than Lou?

You left out that NOT signing Clarkson was a good move. That he attempted to replace Sykora with Ryder, Jagr and Brunner.

That, in theory is about 80 goals on paper.

I don't think you have many points above.

I don't know who you think you replace these guys with on the market, either... I think Lou had an absolute great offseason with the exception of the Clowe deal.

exactly my point.

What? Try to trade Kovy. couldn't be done.

Sign Clarkson?

Draft Bo Horvat instead of trading for Schneider?

Not try out Brunner, Olesz?

What?

He moved Tallinder, making space for Gelinas.
He resigned Elias, Zubrus, Henrique.
He tried to add Jagr, Ryder, and Clowe.
He's recently gotten Lokti on the cheap.
Kids haven't stepped up on offense because the coach hasn't played them.

Maybe Grabovski would've been a good signing. That's all else I see out there.

Any wonderfully imaginitive trades probably wouldn't happen because we don't have the assets.

You have been around long enough to know that Lou is in on these decisions

That's not the same as what RG said, though.

Lou is not telling Pete whether he should dress and play such-and-such player or not.

That is the COACH'S JOB, not Lou's.

It's....ya know....why GM's hire COACHES for, ya know? :sarcasm:

Who would you have signed to replace Parise and Kovy?

You have been around long enough to know that Lou is in on these decisions

We both know that coaches coach and GMs GM. As unorthodox of a GM as Lou is he's still a GM. No coach would allow themselves to be under-minded as far as personnel decisions are concerned.

Selected other available at the time UFAs he knew for 8 months Kovy was leaving and Clarkson wouldn't sign and he knew for over a year that he never replaced Parise and Sykora's production.

Are you kidding me, DeBoer fears being fired he checks with Lou

if you're going to complain then you better provide specific examples.

again, I think Lou's time has passed too, but you act like replacing 2 superstar wingers is just something that can easily be done.

One could certainly argue that Lou screwed up big time by alienating Martin and Parise in his full court press for Kovalchuk. Of course, that does involve quite a bit of hindsight, as nobody knew back then that Kovalchuk was leaving.

Who? Look at the available list of UFAs and tell me which ones would have accomplished what you're seeking.

I can't take your word for it.

You know....NC107 can ignore me all he wants but the fact that will always remain is that while Lou and Pete have "discussions", in the end it is Pete who selects the player whom he wants to either dress-n-play and/or bring up from the minors to fill-in for an injured player, not Lou.

All Lou does is simply give the official "ok".

I said signing Schneider was great playing Marty stinks

The GM of every team in every sport has a strong say on who is playing on a given night. You are fooling yourself to think otherwise.

I would ignore you ?out giving his OK is sharing in the selection decisions

still waiting on who Lou should've signed to immediately replace Kovalchuk and Parise.

as if those types of players are readily available.

I just find it difficult to believe that Lou is telling Pete to play Janssen and to play harrold and to play gionta 24/7.

Sorry. I know Lou is 70+ but I don't think he's Senile yet.....

Pete is the guy who wanted Janssen.

He is the guy who wanted his son(Harrold) to play every stinking time.

He is the guy who wanted his pet Gionta to play with his son every stinking time.

It doesn't matter today. Is Lou plan and yours to accept failure?

You're complaining a lot and it's as if you felt there were other options that would have improved the team.

If that's the case, then what were those options?

It's like you're stranded on a desert island with someone. The person finds food for you. You look at the food and you're all like "well this food sucks. you could've done better." Person looks at you dumbfounded wondering what other options you have on this desert island. Asks you for what you would do in his situation.

And you're all like "well that doesn't matter. Are you fine eating this crap?"

It certainly matters what you would have done differently. Or you're just complaining for the sake of complaining.

You can blame Pete for overplaying Harrold and Gionta, but Janssen? Lou's obsession with giving the team an "enforcer" goes back long before Pete was ever coach, and Lou is the one who called Cam up from Albany.

In the bigger picture, unless a team is totally dysfunctional, the coach and GM have conversations about the roster.
