The way he was leaning over, his shoulder was right at the level of the crossbar. So had he touched it, it would’ve been close. I don’t think he did.

@Blueline Bomber go find the slo mo replay and send it to Tripp. :sarcasm:
My Understanding is it's based on the height of your shoulder if you were on your knees and baseball it in under the crossbar but over where your shoulder is it is still a legal play because it's not about current position

I'm pretty sure he did touch it. Maybe Vegas thought that since the league was reviewing, they would have evaluated that? But the league isn't allowed to review for that unless asked with the challenge.

My thing is it doesn't matter if he did since he tapped it in below.
If he played it with a high stick above the shoulder prior to the goal scoring touch and then touched it to put it in, that can be challenged as a missed stoppage in the offensive zone. You can't cancel out your own high stick. I think it was close but I guess with the time left, Vegas thought two goals was not insurmountable, so don't risk going on the PK.

But where he touched it was Maybe slightly above the crossbar.. that's NOT above his shoulder. if he's standing

I tried my best to watch every replay very closely and all I ever saw was the puck hitting the crossbar and going straight down while Noesen’s stick was waving around in the vicinity. But it was tough to see.

I also think Noesen’s little nod like “oh yeah, it’ll be a good goal” during the celebration would be evidence of that; if he didn’t touch it at all he’d certainly be confident.

And From my understanding of the rules it'd also be legal if he was sitting on his tail.. because shoulder height is not (From my understanding) determined by your orientation..

We didn't get a lot of time and replays on the broadcast to review, so maybe that's the case. But it sure looked to me like he deflected it high before whacking it in.

We may or may not have gotten away with one, but whatever. The ref on the ice is also literally staring at the puck at eye level from 3 feet away. Personally I think there are too many reviews for close calls in general, so I'm happy enough to not have the 5 minute delay.

I’m not saying you’re wrong but… it doesn’t make sense for that to be right. That would mean every shoulder level review is a matter of guessing how tall a guy is when he standing up straight. Even when “mostly” standing up straight, you’re sitting there trying to extrapolate where his shoulder would be…
