If Yzerman signs here, it's going to be for some major dollars. We're talking top line UFA money. Every hockey guy I know has him going back to DET, and I've heard that for close to two years.

That said, for Stevie Y to rake in more as an executive versus a player is a testament to his ability. He would be my top choice. But JD to NY is something I've expected for 10 years after his ramp-up of the Blues.

To me I think both guys will bring a global canvas to the organization. I'm personally not happy with being relegated to Boston's finest.

I say that with respect since I do value a lot of the Boston guys, but I'd like to get away from Boston area college talent that wants to play in NYC.

After Adam Fox that is.

That formula is a little stale at this point.

The more I think about it the more they should just give it to Gorton. He can be president and gm.

For Gorton to continue to see this rebuild through he’d need an insulation from Dolan’s potential interference. It has to be a big personality with strong reputation (or vice versa). Both Davidson and Yzerman would satisfy from this perspective and both have a solid resume to assume they’d smart enough to make the overall front office better.

Uncle Larry today in the Post

If this had happened a year ago, if Glen Sather had opted for a more leisurely life at the end of last season, then Lou Lamoriello likely would be running the Rangers today, Barry Trotz could well have been his coach, and that would only have changed everything for our teams on each side of the East River.
Just imagine.

I would rather lose for the rest of time. f*** that guy.

Kyper reported that last night. If you listened to him say it, it’s John’s job. Yzerman’s heart is somewhere else.
I have a friend who lives in Detroit and he said everyone there has known for a while that Yzerman is going home.

Steve Yzerman stepped down from his GM job in TB to be closer to his family.

The truth was, this decision had been bubbling for a couple of years. Yzerman said he often thought about how he could balance his work life — a 24/7 job as a GM — and still be a good father to his three college-age daughters (Isabella, Maria and Sophia) and wife, Lisa, who still resided in Michigan. All the crisscrossing the country for Lightning home games and road trips, plus trying to make his daughter’s lacrosse and equestrian events, took its toll.

The day after the Lightning lost Game 1 of the Eastern Conference final against the Capitals, Yzerman flew to Round Rock, Texas, to see Sophia play in the club lacrosse national-title game for the University of Michigan.

“I remarked several times, ‘Man I don’t know how you’re doing this,’” childhood friend Darren Pang told The Athletic. “The early morning wake-up calls, flying, to do everything 100 percent. It’s not easy.

“He just loves those girls to death, and it’s an important stage in their life. He loves being a dad, going to school, going to football games. I’m sure like a lot of us, he’s missed a lot. He gets there and enjoys the moment.

“The girls are in college, but I don’t think you’re ever done. My kids graduated and are both married, but you forever want to be around them. They love Michigan. Obviously, there are a lot of times where hockey players live in a city for a long time and end up moving on to the next job and everyone comes with you. They fall in love with another city. But the Detroit area and Michigan have been great to the Yzermans, and they just absolutely love it there. That’s home.”

Steve Yzerman's future remains uncertain after year behind...

Kenny Holland will be 64 soon. His contract was up last year. They gave him just a two year extension. He has one year left.

There has been speculation about Seattle hiring Holland to run their hockey operation. Holland is from British Columbia.

As McKenzie mentioned in the video above, Ken Holland could be one of the front-runners for the job. He has a ton of experience, he’s put together championship teams, and the Red Wings appear to have a successor for him in the form of Steve Yzerman.

Holland signed an extension with the Wings last April, but it was only a two-year deal. That contract was also signed before Yzerman decided to walk away from his job with the Lightning.

Who will be GM of Seattle franchise?

Holland has a cottage in British Columbia. Kalamalka Lake. It's a 70 minute flight to Seattle. 6 hour drive.

Holland isn't the long-term guy in Detroit. Yzerman. All of the years Yzerman was in TB, his wife and family remained in Michigan.

Hasn't Holland also been linked to Edmonton to be supervisor to Keith Gretzky? IIRC, Friedman mentioned that's something Nicholson was discussing, along with interviewing a guy like Kelly McCrimmon. He also mentioned the Stevie Y-Pat Verbeek tandem which I believe you mentioned earlier this week.

JD is a good hire for this position. He has the familiarity with the organization, and CBJ has done a better job with CHL and Euro scouting than we have in recent years. It should be a good mix with our current group of guys, and he'd support Gorton's plan moving forward.
