Laraque's not even the best fighter in this era, let alone all-time. . . . . . .

Edit: Laraque's not even in my top-10 all-time.

BINGO! BGL was the best at grabbing and pulling people down to the ice. No argument that he was the greatest at that.

If you are talking about actually standing toe to toe like a man, then BGL is not even in the top 25 maybe not even the top 50.

SOOOOO many better "fighters" then Georgle LawRestler.

Probert, Kocur, Domi, D. Brown, M. Johnson, Boogaard, J. Scott, Matt Kassian, Shane Churla, Mark Tinoridi, ALL were/are better Fighters than BGl, and that's just a tiny list I quickly came up with.
 
It all depends on what style of fighting you think is the best fighting. Was laraque a very successful enforcer...for sure, he was huge, scary and rag dolled most heavyweights in the league....

Damage wise, I don't think he really ever impressed me like a Orr or Boogaard did in fights.

Laraque may have been one of the strongest and best enforcers....but fighter I don't think so. I prefer my fights to be punches, lots, landing, offence....etc...etc..

Therefore Probert, Orr, Nilan, Domi etc...would be my top fighters.
 
probert in his prime is hands down the best fighters, pretty much every player will agree, domi is up there for his size
 
BGL isn't the greatest fighter of all time, not by a long shot. But he did have his way with some of the toughest guys in the league during his prime. His biggest problem was he wasn't a mean guy, he didn't fight angry and he lacked some of the crazy that a guy like Probert had. If Laraque was the kind of guy who truly loved being an enforcer and went out to hurt other people, than yeah he may have been the greatest enforcer of all time.
 
Its alteady been mentioned but no. Wrestling your opponent to the ice without landing any signicant punches does not mean you won the fight. Laraque was usually billed at around 240lbs but for much of his career he was actually much heavier than that.

Jesus, what is Kyte thinking? It was over, Brown clearly was done with him then he decides to try and punch from his back lying on the ice only to take an ugly beating for his efforts...
 
Not even close. Many guys in the 70s-80s would have beat him.... Then we got the early 90 guys who woulda beat him more than not... grimson, probert, kocur etc.... A prime tony twist woulda beaten the heck out of a prime laraque.

I don't really think Laraque was one of the best fighters but he was one of the best at not geting beat to hell.
 
Robert Sangster could in the discussion, he could really throw them until Probert threw him out and he was a pretty strong ass fighter. Also career leader for the Kitchener Rangers in penalty minutes.
 
"bald" Laraque would beat up "dreadlock" Laraque. Laraque was one of the king pins of the late 90s early 00s. Brashar was who he considered the best but Donald seemed to deal with the McSorleys before he would touch Rob Ray, Domi or Twist. Best ever is a stretch, Probert is up there but Dave Semenko and Dave Brown totally are kicking in Top 3 in my books. Semenko turned noses into butter, and Brown broke hald of Grimsons face. Intense back then!


They all aren't Doug "the thug" Glatt though #69...

Greatest fighter? Never. Greatest heavyweight/westler? Yeah, probably. In my book thats a huge difference. Georges always did what he had to, but I don't think he had that mentality to just step out there and kill the other guy like some others have. My vote goes for Bob Probert. And by saying that I'm a huge Laraque fan myself.

This and so much more. GL wasn't even a intimidating factor in this league for like 10 years. People talk about top 20. For how many seasons do you think the other team was even worried about playing GL? I would honstly guess that there were 20 players in the league during the time he was active that bothered the other team more the George. I like George, don't get me wrong. But this topic is way off.

This makes no sense. Laraque entered the league in 97-98 and fought 5 times during the regular season. In the 98-99 season is when he fought Ray and it was his last of 9 fights that season.
 
No, GL was good but Probert would make Orr/Lucic/Scott/Brown/Engelland/any one else cry themselves to sleep. I think Tony Twist is worth a mention in here as well, guy was insane.
 
I will always remember big george for one thing.
Lucic had run at every habs player, had fought habs half his size and played to the Boston fans in doing it. Something had to be done.
Habs signed Big George for one thing only. Lucic had to be stopped.
Habs simply had no one as big and mean and good at fighting as Lucic.
Big George knew why he was signed. At the first opportunity Big George stepped on the ice and well Lucic run like a the coward he is. Big George chased him up and down the ice with no regard for the play. Lucic just run away skated as fast as he could to get away from Big George, and Lucic also had no regard for the hockey play, he was just running for this life. Up and down the ice for 2 minutes this lasted until Lucic flew off the ice and back the his bench and the safety behind his coaches skirts.
Of course Boston fans will never admit to all this. " it never happened, Lucic never saw George, he just played his shift and a fight never happened so Lucic is still the best fighter in all of hockey, I see nothing, I know nothing,I hear nothing". Well I saw, I know, I heard it all, the day Big George showed Lucic for the coward he is.
