I will always remember big george for one thing.
Lucic had run at every habs player, had fought habs half his size and played to the Boston fans in doing it. Something had to be done.
Habs signed Big George for one thing only. Lucic had to be stopped.
Habs simply had no one as big and mean and good at fighting as Lucic.
Big George knew why he was signed. At the first opportunity Big George stepped on the ice and well Lucic run like a the coward he is. Big George chased him up and down the ice with no regard for the play. Lucic just run away skated as fast as he could to get away from Big George, and Lucic also had no regard for the hockey play, he was just running for this life. Up and down the ice for 2 minutes this lasted until Lucic flew off the ice and back the his bench and the safety behind his coaches skirts.
Of course Boston fans will never admit to all this. " it never happened, Lucic never saw George, he just played his shift and a fight never happened so Lucic is still the best fighter in all of hockey, I see nothing, I know nothing,I hear nothing". Well I saw, I know, I heard it all, the day Big George showed Lucic for the coward he is.

His coach told him not to the fight. They didn't get laraque because of what looch was doing. They had him earlier in that season and thornton offered plenty of times with laraque after their fight that year and big george never obliged. I still think looch should've fought him and many bruins fans will agree with that. But him beating up on habs players half his size is just ridiculous. He beat the crap out of komi a game or two before that. Komi is not "half of lucic's size". The fact that this is still discussed is hilarious to me. Looch probabley loses that fight. But he doesn't get knocked out or anything like that.

"bald" Laraque would beat up "dreadlock" Laraque. Laraque was one of the king pins of the late 90s early 00s. Brashar was who he considered the best but Donald seemed to deal with the McSorleys before he would touch Rob Ray, Domi or Twist. Best ever is a stretch, Probert is up there but Dave Semenko and Dave Brown totally are kicking in Top 3 in my books. Semenko turned noses into butter, and Brown broke hald of Grimsons face. Intense back then!

After years and years of the Bruins trying to "goon it up" against more talented Montreal teams and coming out on the losing end of the stick, it was absolutely hilarious to see that travesty. Montreal was losing and up against a far more talented team and had no clue how to goon it up. At least back in the day we could beat you up when we lost!

That was such an epic fail for Montreal, and yet you act as though is was one of your team's crowning moments of glory.

BGL was too much used to fighting other goons, he didn't know what to do to fight a "civilian". There's no codes with regular players, George should have annoyed him till he couldn't stand it and would not have any choices but to fight him.Or give dirty hits to other Bruins players. He thought Lucic would have turned around and say "yes mister gentleman sir, I accept your duel!".

Lucic finished that game with 9 hits and a goal. I don't think he ever had 9 hits in a game before or since.

Brash at his prime yes. But the last couple years of his career he was strictly wrestling guys. He fought byron bitz and although i liked bitz it wasn't much a fight a lot of hanging on. I believe thornton fought him and used the jab so that brash wouldn't bear hug him to death. I think is a whole lot to do about nothing. And its been going on for what..4 or 5 years?

So true, LOL, and ultimately what cost Georges his job with the Habs. To get a guy like Lucic to go, you have to get him angry. Being a "civilian" (love the term, LOL) he's not a staged fight guy like most of the goons in the NHL are nowadays.

Brown is top 5, Schultz, Twist, Howe finish it out.

Domi, Semenko, Kocur, Nilan and Boogard are all top 10, in my opinion.

All of these guys were tough fighters, and never said no to a fight, which is something I use to define a true fighter/heavyweight. All of them would stand up and swing too, no wrestling.

Laraque doesn't even make this list, if you look at how he moved to take the other guy to the ground if he started losing. Put Laraque up against any of these guys without the ability to wrestle to the ground, and he gets KO'd.

As an enforcer he was too much of a code-man and lacked mean spirit required for the role.

Brown (guy was nails)
Wilson (short career, awesome record)
4 and 5 are probably close between Kocur and Twist. No one had a heavier punch all time than Kocur and Twist on roids was nuttier than squirrel ****.

Laraque wasnt mean, he got kicked out of the NHL because he wouldnt fight lol.

I remember reading a finnish NHL magazine in 90's and there was a big article about Kocur where he told about how effed his hands/knuckles were from fighting. He also said that many enforcers punch their hands/knuckles to wall/etc to get the skin/knuckles tougher.
