Bronze in last years Worlds.
Semifinal in this years WJC while being the best team in the tournament.
Full of very good NHLers and more coming up.

Is it safe to say that the Czechs is back with the big boys (Can, Usa, Fin, Russia).

Nobody cares about who the round robin pool winners are. They're not the best until they win gold, which they certainly cold.

No not is not safe at all.
why not?

Czech won their qf against a strong swiss team. Now they are in the finals (yes they will beat Sweden).

If the Czechs can develop 2 or 3 additional defencemen who are more than just bottom pairing guys in the NHL they will be right back in the thick of things as a full blown contender at any type of "best-vs-best".
Jiricek and Spacek comes to mind.

They have good talents coming up but also players born in the 80s/early 90s czhecking out. How will they do this years draft and coming drafts?

why not?

Beat Sweden? Strong Swiss team?

I hope so the more competitive nations the better international hockey becomes, watching the same teams win all the time is boring

There are a lot of great Czech forwards but the D is greatly lacking. No top pair guys.

If some combination of Jiricek, Svozil, and Spacek can fill that void that would make a huge difference. Let's circle back in a few years.

That is where I'm at.. also, gudas, simek and rutta will be aging put by the next best on beat and the new crew won't be there. It'll be hronek doing a lot of heavy lifting. We are fine everywhere else but our D isn't close to the US, Canada or Sweden and behind Finland and Russia too

I think the Czechs could’ve beaten Russia if they were in the WJC they are a great team this year.
In pool play we have a nice record against Russia... 3 in a row I believe. When it counted in medal rounds and quarters.. Russia destroyed us and has owned us. The head to head is nice though.lol

They were never number 1.
It certainly looks arguable to me. They were at worst 2nd during that time period.

Total medal count from 1998-2006 including World Juniors, World Championship, World Cup & Olympics.

'Points' is me assigning 4 points for gold, 3 points for silver, 2 for bronze and 1 point for fourth place.

Addendum: I gave both Czechia and USA a 3rd place finish for the 2004 World Cup as there was no bronze medal game.
