well that's not going to happen he has a NMC.

However, I think we can still sign him if its around 4M while keeping Girardi.

Not really, all Sather needs is a list of teams Girardi is willing to waive his NMC, trust me teams will want Girardi even at his new deal

It's like people are trying to NOT admit stralman is good or something because if they keep denying it then surely he will have a cheap price tag or something

The guy is good enough for 4mill. Period. Alot worse make more in this league.

I have no problem paying Stralman between 4M and 5M. If it's term he's after, give him 4M for 4 years.

What if we give him 5 years and 20M (4M AAV).. I think he's more about security (term) than he is money.

part of me does wonder if playing with Staal also helped him alot.. I go back and forth if this guy is worth the $$ he's gonna be seeking. at 4M I absolutely bring him back though.

Stralman without Staal this season: 56.1 CF%
Staal without Stralman: 48.6%

Stralman's been playing for this contract for three seasons.

He deserves a raise but the question is he's going to be loyal and allow the Rangers to match any other teams offers.

They're not re-signing him prior to July 1st. Considering how the Rangers ressurected this guy's career, the least he and his agent can do is give them the courtesy prior to signing a deal with another team.

They Rangers will give him term if another club goes over 4 million.

You're usually only an UFA once in your prime. There is no way Stralman stays for 4M per, especially in NY where the cost of living is higher. He is young, with a young family which he has reiterated is his #1 priority in securing their future. This is his career payday. If a team is willing to give him 5M+ per (and I'm sure there will be) he is gone. We all wish they had to foresight to lock him up earlier. Imagine the boards if he was extended last summer at 4M per, the boards would have revolted, now we are all praying he takes it, which I don't think he will. If he does re-sign for 4M he is one loyal sob, and we shall speak his name!

Really, he owes the Rangers no such thing. The team left many players in the air and if a UFA does not know what the team truly intends to do, they are free to do what they want and owe the team zero. There is no need for any player to risk losing a potential signing elsewhere when their existing team hasn't (1) committed to them and (2) seems to be waiting till July 1st to apparently test waters. That's a risk the team takes and the player has every right to do as he sees fit.

It's well known that highly sought after UFA's often score contracts well in excess of their actual value. Look at Clowe and Clarkson last year. The Rangers could offer Anton $4 mil + and he'd still turn them down at this point. A couple days from now he can more or less start negotiating with other teams. I'm thinking he and his agent are thinking we might as well see what other teams might offer.

IMO Stralman is not coming back and some of us are just going to have to learn to live with it.
