The fact that he went from one of our worst analytical players to one of our best really tells me our last coaches did this guy no favors.

They need to work some magic on Kakko to get him some jump now though.
I think he's been fine. Last night, he was robbed of an assist when Zib muffed his break-in. Still, I don't think he's a mesh with the two lovebirds stylistically. But people say to give it time and stop with the line juggling the second things don't go positively. Laviolette is giving it time. So ok.

I really don't like turtling in the 1-3-1. I don't think we're that good at it. We somehow let them get entry or access to the red line very easily.... it's suppose to be the opposite. Allow the other team to gain momentum and confidence. Not a fan of playing 'not to lose'.

We bent but didn't break. Igor made some S-tier saves though. Not a recipe I want to stick to or rely on, ESPECIALLY with only a 2 goal lead.

For all intents and purposes, the Chytil line was benched in the 3rd. minimal shifts.

Calgary found ways to break it. They pressured high when they could and trapped a lot of our players, which gave them some space coming out of their own zone.

Yeah this is the first thing Lav has done that I DIDN'T like. No need to bench what was your best line 5v5 for lines that are worse, especially the 4th line.

I think a big reason why it looked the way it did was because of the excessive use of the 4th line. That line is not good.

Cuylle Trocheck Kakko. Checking line. Embrace it. Because it’s ideal and it’s coming. And lavy will give them PLENTY of ice time

not in period 3. We just sat back for the most part. I don't care we that we sat back but we need to pressure the puck in the neutral zone.

I thought we played a heck of a game after the first 10 mins but it was a weird one because we didn’t give up much but when we did it was a glorious chance and Igor had to make the save. Kind of like woah where’d that come from.

Wheeler is a total liability out there

Gus finally gives us that secondary scoring behind fox we have lacked from the back end.

Schneider who I’ve always liked has been terrible since day 1 too.

I don't mind it as much as they are playing 'their role'.

but you can't just be stuck in your zone defending for 90% of your ice time... Sure, you're good defenders but you can't defend THAT much.

And I know I’ve been saying this everyday but drury should try and sneak a cheap long term deal with Gus in asap. Sell him on stability. I still just do not understand how he doesn’t get paid by someone in this league as a free agent.

PP2 goal happened because Chytil, being on fire, gained the zone with his speed and allowed the unit to set up. PP2 almost never is able to establish the zone. But Laf made a really bad cross-ice pass that almost let the Flames clear but the unit was able to regain puck control. I think it was Kakko who was able to trap and recover the puck against a defender on the left side boards.

I wonder if Laviolette has the balls to sit Wheeler and plug in Pitlick "to send a message," with Wheeler being a high-profile acquisition. But he's gotta be on a short leash at least, with his absolute lack of quality -- to borrow an English football phrase -- through 6 games.

A good deal of Calgary's 5v5 shot advantage was built on the 4th line getting shat on. It's frustrating because it would be a much more serviceable line if they just didn't play Goodrow.

The Trocheck line took it on the chin too, but that I don't mind so much. They've been matching up hard. The Zibanejad line has been driving play much better now that we have a coach not deploying Zibanejad like a 10-time Selke winner.

I absolutely LOVED that Lav put out the 2nd unit 1st on that second PP.

I think Gallant did that once his entire tenure here (for like 35 seconds) and it took Lav all of 6 games to show the top unit what needs to be done. A pass or two and get it on.

And then what happened?

Instantly a Mika one timer from the point and then a simple play to the net from Panarin finding Kreider for the goal. Get it there. Its almost too easy for CK. They need to reminded of this and sending out the first unit is the best way to wake them up. It also shows confidence in the kids.

I mentioned it earlier, having Gust on that second unit makes it a lot easier for him to pull the trigger with that, because Lav trusts him and he knows what he can do on the PP.

Even at the end of the game up 3-1 he puts out Gust, Fox, Kakko, Mika and Kreids. Gallant wouldve lazily thrown out the PP1 again or maybe Lindgren and Fox with the rest of the normal PP1 group.

So nice to see purpose in the decision making.
Agreed. Lav is winning me over with his personnel decisions.

Chytil
Igor
Panarin.
(You can swap the first 2 in any order)
Chytil was a man on a mission after having a brain fart when the game started.
Igor made some near goal saves that obviously change the course of the game had they went in.
I struggled with Panarin or Laf for the last spot, but Panarin's passing was simply on last night. The amount of passes he made from his blue line through the the neutral zone to the opposite side really gave that line the ability to stay out of their zone.

Cuylle is not going to have the points to backup his play, but he's a dog off the leash on those forechecks.

There is a contingent of people that is noticeably quiet when one of Kakko, Laf or Chytil has a good game.

Interesting.
We were told to be.

That said... I love Laf getting points. I hope we trade him and get peak value.
