Yeah, I get it.

Fun thing about Laf, that backhand cross ice pass to Panarin was great, but the question on him is not his technical passing ability - he's shown its excellent. The question is his ability to perform with less time and space and to maintain intensity. Jury is still out there. So far, so good this year.

Separately, I don't think there's any chance Kane comes back. I think Drury didn't really want him last year and got pressured. I can't imagine how he fits in Lav's system *at all*. Let him go home to Buffalo.
I think the question is really a confidence issue, and I think this year it becomes a total non issue. But I guess we shall see.

Well 70 points back in the Torts days is equivalent to about 100 now and we still don’t have any of those.
Scoring is not up 45% from the Torts days... hahaha. More like 11 or 12%.

dunno, depends a bit on whether he saw Laf cruising back in front and shot it as a deflectable puck for that purpose, or was just throwing it at the net

that Kreider goal though...goddamn. you can just tell calgary kinda thought "well he's not in front of the net so I'll come out and cut down on the angle/block any shots and it's no big deal" and left a wide open lane from Panarin to pass to Kreider and that kind of deflection is some jedi shit

Also kinda agree on Kane. It felt like a pressured move that he wasn't anticipating to make. I don't know if it was a Dolan mandate or that when Kane asid he'd only go to the Rangers then Drury thought he had to make a move, but I think that was then and this is now.
If for some reason it made $$ and logistical sense then I could see him doing it but I don't think he'll do it just to do it for the name of "kane"

I also don't believe that Panarin has outsized influence over the current coaches this time. There was pressure to recreate the Panarin-Kane magic.

Mika needs to wake up, that will definitely help Kakko and that line.

So does Kreider tbh.

I haven't liked him very much 5v5 at all save for like 4 periods spread across 6 games.

Everything else is working so theres no need to shake things up just year but it may not be a bad idea to flip him and Cuylle just to get him kick started if this persists.

Panarin had one season in the 90s and looks like he might go back to his 100 point seasons and Mika was in the 90s too. Also 70s was not the same as the 100s now that's ridiculous. Just take the L. I know people think it's cool to shit on this team and we're not elite upper echelon talent-wise but saying we have no one is ridiculous. Posts like that make HF a worse place to post in.

We have a couple of high end players in Panarin and Fox but the team plays a low skill game. Calgary has a guy like Huberdeau who as actually scored 100 but it doesn’t change how they play.
If you watched other teams around the league it becomes so apparent.
and I’m not just talking Colorado and New Jersey. We are so boring.

Playing a low skill game and having no skill are two different things. I'd rather play our game than Edmonton's.

I'd be willing to make the swap if the salaries were equal. As underwhelming as Kane was last year he still put up 12 points in 19 games. Giving him the benefit of the doubt that he's healed. I am also completely fine with riding it out until December/January when they decide Othmann has had enough time to cook in the AHL. I think he's a taylor-made fit for that line.
Yep, Kane is a giant wild card. The only thing we know is he’ll be different from last year’s Kane. Maybe much better. Potentially worse. But that should be clear soon. Before he signs.
If he’s we’ll he’s a guy worth rolling the dice on.

He's been training hard, that's all I know.

I think your'e too enamored with how certain teams play and stuck on the idea that's the one true formula

This is a good point. I - for one - forgot how much arm-twisting it took to get Kane to the Rangers in the first place.

If Mika had scored from Kreider/Kakko you wouldn’t call that boring.
We can make high skilled plays, and our guys try to, just need to finish a little better.

I’ve been critical of Kreider’s 5-on-5 play in the past but I’m really impressed by him this season. He looks purposeful on pretty much every shift and has been battling for space in front of the net. Making himself a real pain for the goalie again.

Good points here but we should also consider that Kane this year isn't going to cost any draft picks and may even force Drury to have a quiet deadline instead of giving away firsts/seconds like he likes to do.
Sure. True. We don’t know how Drury really feels about Kane.

We just want to see a flash of skill. A dash of pepper to a solid entree never hurts. That shoudn't be misconstrued with being enamored with a high-flair but risky style. Flash can be good when the situation calls for it. Instead of an Alex Frolov wraparound special, how about using the vertical dimension of air. Yeah, the Michigan. I think we attemped one Michigan, and that was Krieder, who was so bad at it that it looked like a North Dakota.

Put Othmann with Kreider and Zib and put Kakko with Cuylle and Trocheck.

Put Wheeler in the middle of nowhere in Saskatchewan.

We bitch and moan every season about Zib having a slow start. And then he gets it going and the discussion changes to how he is in the top 3 centers in the league.

I'm not worried about Zib, or the first line. Second line looks great. Bread is on a mission. 3rd line, I'm hoping for more production. 4th line, Jimmy will lead the way.
