The main question here, how long we can to wait healthy Ryan Murray. Nobody knows. I have no confidence that he will be recover to start next season.

I mean thats fair, but I'd rather gamble on him turning it around and not having one injury after another, than trade him off for futures or other middle 6-ers or bottom pairing d-men.

There's risk either way, but I'd rather bet on Murray just because the potential reward is greater than what we'd get back for him.

No, I am not going to stop. And he is not a "whipping boy". It is simply a fair question to ask. I phrased it ask a question, not a demand. I was interested in any discussion that follows from the question. If you don't want to participate in the discussion, then don't.

If the deal is right I'd trade him. Even though he isn't injury prone, or even susceptible to injury, he sure has missed a lot of games as a result of injury, beginning in his last junior season.

I elaborated more on the main board but Kekalainen has stated the obvious that we will be adding defensive depth this summer. Article, here.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/...ckets-to-add-depth-on-defense-this-offseason/

Defensive depth is an interesting concept. What does it mean? Adding a couple of NHL ready 3rd pair guys on 2 ways down in Springfield(Cleveland)? Adding a 2nd pair guy who then bumps Golo/Prout/Connauton to 7th and one of them to either the AHL or another team? Trading one our vets for another lesser esteemed vet and a prospect? Adding depth doesn't sound like improving the defense to me although it could. Who knows?

Unfortunately to me it just sounds like he's going to explore some depth for the AHL team so that when called up they won't look out of place in the NHL.

It sure doesn't sound like getting the top pair guy(s) we need. I hope Jarmo at least kick the tires on Buff.

Or perhaps to the shock of many on this board, it is time to look at what we can get for Murray. (I can hear the curses and anger as I write this).

We could get a little value back for Murray, but we won't get a top pair D for him. And our biggest need is for a top pair D, i.e. the player Murray still has a small chance of becoming.

With all the focus on players physical condition I doubt the front office wants Byfuglien to lead the long summer training effort with his example.

That's easy to do; usually by August, Byfuglien is carrying at least two spare tires on him.
Tsk tsk. Be nice. He's a lot better at keeping in game shape than his reputation would suggest.

Alternatively: "Yeah, but at least he doesn't bolt for Russia at the sign of anything resembling adversity, unlike some other folks on that roster I could name." :sarcasm:

I really, really enjoyed this article:

A highly recommended read, for anyone having doubts about the future of this team. Get on the Believe Train now, cause it's leaving the station soon...

I believe this team is in the best position they've ever been. Somehow, this team with all the injuries is going to finish above .500. While this is not exactly something to crow about, for a team that is going to lose 500+ man games to injury, I think it's significant in the growth of the franchise. The kids have taken some steps in their growth and there's more on the way.

I can see the Jackets following the path of the Isles. IIRC, three years ago the Isles lost in the first round to the Penguins in a close series, then last season was injury riddled and this year they've become an Eastern conference title contender. I see the Jackets doing this.

That said, could you imagine if for once this organization was blessed with fortune and won the draft lottery? I don't even let my mind wander on that because it just doesn't seem like it's in the cards (or ping pong balls) for the Jackets.

I don't know, but IMHO our team has unique way. Isles core was seriously powered last afterseason with Kulemin, Grabovsky, Boychuk etc. Our core stays same and we traded Gaborik and Wisniewski like players without big problems  We came from West with own "western" philosophy, Isles eastern team per se.

When we were healthier that Isles last three years? :) we played more injured all time

Picks and valleys is more typical for Isles. Our way is onward movement

And we ll never be done with Boll :)

Great article, thanks. I agree with much of what is written and hope our bright future will come as soon as possible. And i have a question, who here on our board has doubts about future our team? May be unhappy with some players or some from coaching staff, but i sure nobody doubts in the future of our team.

I have doubts.
1 - We have a good goalie who gets hurt fairly often and this team needs to be willing to invest in a solid #2 goalie (multiple years, more than $1M/year).
2 - Lot of bad contracts and I still argue we are not a Cap team but usually a Budget team. Also I think the team over years is scared to lose to much so they tinker to much spending resources on fillers to keep us near the playoffs.
3 - D-corps are missing top level talent and depth. Missing likely 2 top 4 players. Also lot of future is wagered on Murray staying healthy and progressing.
4 - Not sold on Richards being the right coach (I could be wrong here, I just like guys who have a very visible system like Hitch)
5 - We have plenty of young depth at forward but still need guys to progress.
6 - Culture. Maybe we're past this now but too many times in past guys come here to retire early. Not as bad as it use to be, hopefully this has changed but need to see what ownership, management, coaches and players do to hold each other responsible.

So yeah I question ownership/management (how much will they spend, will they spend wisely, and the commitment to winning championships), coaching (just not sure if we have right guy), quality of d-men, depth at goaltending and hoping the potential works out for the forwards. Then the culture (country club) thing. Any thing else I'm missing? :)

You forgot we need a top 6 RW and we need to trade a conditional 7th to get that player.
