It's starting to look like some of the babies on this team got the memo they couldn't just whine their way to whatever they wanted. Some guys are actively working harder and the team game seemed more put together for a change. Don't want to dump on kreider but there is nothing being lost right now 5v5 while he is out and coaching HAS to see that Mika benefits from being separated from 20 no matter how much they like each other. People can say whatever about rempe but the trend is there. Chytil being out again highlight the glaring lack of center depth in the organization, this has to be addressed.

That would be an issue with say 10 games left not when you are only halfway into the season.

Then I guess every fanbase should be blindly optimistic about getting in since there are 7 points between the bottom of the conference and WC2.

I'm just saying, it's very hard to close that gap entirely. Even more so when you've got arguably the toughest remaining schedule of any of the teams jockeying for those spots.

I get that everyone is Jazzed that they clowned on the Devils but its going to take much more than just this game to say "hey! they're getting in!" They've had some really tough slides this year and they can't afford another one.

And they'll hit another one (or five) if they keep throwing Lindgren out there.

If that was your takeaway then you missed the entire point.

It's not as simple as making up 4 points, you need to jump 5 teams.

There is a reason why they sit at (or under, depending on who you're following) a 20% to get in.
So the odds are against them, agreed. But it's not remotely out of the question, especially when you look at who those 5 teams are. There's not a sleeping giant among them. To borrow a phrase, 'it looks like a bunch of r*&^%$# trying to hump a doorknob.'

of the teams outside, who has the greatest chance of going on a *run?*

Jersey wrapped up a 6 game road trip. 1-4-1. They lost to Carolina,Anaheim, LA and San Jose. Beat Seattle. Lost to the Rangers in OT. The Seattle game was Monday night. 6 hour flight. 3 hour time change. I thought they were going to win the game in the 2nd period, Hughes was running around and nobody touches him. Up 2-1. Lafreniere takes a penalty. If NJ scored there, it would have been game over. The Devils were on fumes in the third period. Markstom held them in the game.

The Caps are the best team in the east.

The Rangers had a 14 game stretch after the Kings game. Playing 11 games against playoff teams. The Rangers are 4-7-1. Two more games coming up. Vegas and Colorado. Vegas will be in a bad mood losing to the Islanders. Colorado fixed their goaltending.

I won’t lie, I’m torn. I obviously want to win and compete for a cup.

However I still think this team isn’t good enough to win. Part of me wants to lose ever my game at this point.
We might not be good enough yet.....but with Othmann added , Rempe return , Kaliyev gets into NHL mode and maybe Mancini and or instead a couple of Dmen are brought in with the cap savings we could be as good as any team in the Metro and in all honesty I would take my chances with anyone league wide . We get some guys playing like they can and a hot Igor.....plus the 20 million to spend , I can't help but be optimistic .

To change the subject....what is the deal on Toews return ? Does he have anything left ? Is he a UFA ? If he was any good anymore could we sign him or does he have to pass through waivers ?

God bless you, you glass half full man! I see you're back on the sauce again, the positive vibes Kool-Aid.

Sorry, but this team is never winning a cup built the way they are. Doesn't mean they should've packed their tents when they had an issue with the GM, but they weren't winning a Cup if everything was Kumbaya all season either.

Ive been saying the Rangers are making the playoffs throughout this bad stretch. This isnt the roster they'll be ending the season with. The east isn't good. Nothing is predetermined.

Plus some of those five clubs will be selling off and a team like the Bruins are heading south very soon as they over achieved in the first half and teams like the Caps will also slip some as they don't the guys in the net IMO. The WC spot is there for the club that wants it the most I figure .

I mention Toews mostly because we have some cap for this year left to spend and he could get that prove it period with us and maybe find a spot elsewhere next season if he proves out for possibly a 2 yr deal somewhere .

Serious Cup contending clubs won't want to waste their precious cap on him in a Cup arms race .....we could outbid them all . If Cjytil gets hurt he might be good enough to cover that spot and he was 63 % on the dot and I think he could be an asset on 2nd line PP spots . He has a winning pedigree and should also help a bit in the room .

Anyways....I imagine they are watching this unfold because it is not often you get guys with a winning pedigree , a BIG Center , a FO expert to help the cause.......if he DOES make sense and can handle it ....then we can waive Kaliyev if needed and maybe trade a forward for a dman and move Mika to the wing . All food for thought .....also Toews is not young anymore .
