Would you guys feel comfortable with throwing a half-blinded Staal to the wolves in the playoffs playing 25 mins a night? I'm not doctor, but if he is having depth perception troubles, things could get real ugly. I'm not even talking giveaways, mostly concerned about rushing back for icings and getting plastered for missing the puck.

I think 'half-blinded' is a gross overstatement. That being said, yes, I'm slighted concerned with how Staal will handle the transition.

I have blurry vision in one eye. Went to the doctor, and when he made me take an eye test, and I covered my left eye, I was half blind. My left eye works fine, and normally I see perfectly fine, even with one bum eye.

Not sure how well this compares to Staal.
Or if I actually see fine, since I've never seen with 2 working eyes

Well, I've played in a league without my prescription goggles at times and when you have blurred vision the puck is hard to track when it's not within say 20 feet. And when a long pass or shot would come at me, it felt like it would come much faster because I was picking it up late. It's kind of like playing goal and trying to stop a shot when you didn't pick up the moment the stick hits the puck. You just feel a little behind everything. You're forced to let your instincts kick in a bit more. You tend to focus more on playing the man as opposed to the puck. Which is ok for basic D. But really hard for doing more precise maneuvers like, catching passes, stickhandling, defending 2 on 1's, getting your stick out to deflect shots, etc. Staals patent maneuvers in the corner where he stickhandles around an opposing forward before moving it up to the forwards are the kinds of things that might be compromised if he comes back too soon.

So with Dorsett skating today it will be interesting to see if he's able to play in any games in the reg season. Or rather, of torts will put him into the lineup.

If healthy and conditioned enough, Dorsett should play. He's better than Pyatt, Powe and Asham.

But will Torts stick with lesser players because its so late in the season and Dorsett is an unknown quantity on this team?

No reason to rush Staal. We need him badly, but I'd rather have him come in at 100% than rush it.

OMG if Dorsett doesn't enter this lineup for Pyatt when he is ready and healthy then Tortorella really has his head up his ***. Pyatt has contributed ZERO the last 25-30 games. I mean I don't know what happened to this guy, but its obvious he has lost his confidence and doesn't even use his size in the corners anymore. At least, Powe (I like) and Asham have a pulse and take the body.

Katie Strang reported during her weekly chat yesterday Staal had a eye doctor appointment yesterday afternoon. Routine appointment. He traveled down to Philly later in the day. The team left on the train after practice.

Would be awesome to get Dorsett and Staal back for 2-3 games minimum. Two fresh bodies at this time, considering the types of games they play and how they'll fit into the structure of the team would be a big deal imo.

Dorsett over Pyatt and you can actually truck that 4th line out pretty consistently. Sucks that Powe adds nothing offensively but Asham has a shot and all three can cause some havoc.

Staal goes in and who comes out? One of Eminger or Moore. Thats going to be a tough decision for me. I know Eminger hasnt been the greatest with the puck - but I think he's tougher and more well suited for the playoff game (gotta get there first). Obviously Moore is a tremendous skater and can move the puck, but he gets destroyed out there. I still think he needs some seasoning in that regard. I'd go with the vet and have Moore there as a very suitable 7th man. Itll be interesting to see how those two finish out the year and if my opinion changes.

I can't wait to have this dilemma.

I really can't see Torts choosing Moore over Eminger.

Agree. The only way I see Torts playing Moore is if he "stacks" the top 4 playing DZ on the right side. If he does that then I can see Moore slotting in on the bottom pair with Stralman.

I'm starting think we won't see Marc Staal this season. It's been 6 weeks to the day and he's still having trouble with blurry vision. I just can't see him being back by the end of April.

Luckily he's been about to skate and workout so conditioning won't be too big of a concern when he does come back. Hopefully he's back during the playoffs.

If we can both back for the playoffs it would be huge. I hope they're back for a couple of tune up games, too.
