@JimCerny: First week after injury "was scary"...Staal said his wife would be up all night cleaning blood from his eye area

I didn't know Staal was married! I thought he was the poor loner in the family after Jordan got married last summer. I guess there's always Jared.

Very lucky...oldtimers on here can tell you what happened to Barry Ashbee of the Flyers when he was hit with a Dale Rolfe slapshot in the eye in 1974

You know she loves you when she cleans the bloody wounds of your eye after a puck shot.

Good to see Staal making some progress. After last nights debacle, it'd be nice to have him back.

This is great news. :handclap:

The quote about his wife and bloody eye I'm sure was absolutely terrifying for her. I mean, I guess they knew he'd recover so that helps - but still very unsettling to see someone you care about with that happening to them nightly.

Get well soon Staalsy!

This is awesome news. The Rangers D will instantly be better when he joins the club, even if he is at 90%. I'm hoping he will be close to 100% vision in that eye, because that could become a factor considering you really use your peripheral vision in this game.

I wonder why he's being held out.. obv its seeing so its huge.. but around the nhl guys put on a facemask and play with broken bones, blacked eyes etc.. I wonder whats holding this up..

he looks like hes got good vision judging by the pic now, maybe more conditioning?

Yeah, I mean seriously, I was thinking the same thing.

This is definitely the "new" NHL. I mean, what do I know, maybe thats great. But its definitely a new league.

What's taking him so long?

Get back on the ice.

This may be a little farfetched, but I think a lot of this "not playing a game" thing stems from when he got hit in the eye with a puck moving at about 80mph.

Indeed. How the heck does anyone here know how his eyesight is or how much blood is behind his eye or anything else about his medical status? Good grief.
