If I'm not mistaken, Necas was the last person on the team that really possessed the puck tonight (not Raanta freezing or us dumping out on the PK).
If so, I think this is 2 or 3 games in a row where he's the last Cane to touch the puck when we lose in OT. Which is eye opening when we only have 5 OTL this year.
I'm sorry but Necas is becoming a problem this year. He's a walking turnover in overtime, every time he gets the puck the other team ends up with it shortly thereafter. It happens every game.
I think sometimes his hands and/or mind struggle to keep up with his electric skating ability. If he can harness that and play more consistently, he will be a good player. Still way too early to give up on him though. He's always had this issue. It gets masked by his occasional highlight reel play. Seems like he's trying to handle the puck in a way that his body can't support.
Also, Skjei has been a pretty good player for the Canes, but he may want to spend less time working on his golf game and more time working on his puck handling.
Kotkaniemi has tried twice to be a LW and it hasn’t worked out. What is Rod's problem with Kotkaniemi? And at the same time, his love affair with goddamn Jordan Martinook?
Why are we even trying him at wing? He's plenty capable at Centering that 4th line. And if he's centering that 4th line, they shouldn't be getting 8 mins a nightKotkaniemi has tried twice to be a LW and it hasn’t worked out.

I think Nino Kokomiami Jarvis could be a solid line to give more minutes to then run Marty party Staal Fast. Treat both as 3rd lines and give equal minutes.
I mean... this probably should be the lineup we run every night anyway. Marty/Staal/Fast isn't a typical energy line that you expect out of the 4th line, but they'd be damn good defensively and would match up well against any top line that others throw at us. The rest would be 3 quality lines that should be able to drive offensive play when they're on the ice. This would basically give us a legit elite 1st line, a high level 2nd line, a low 2nd/very high 3rd line, and a defensively dominant 4th. Not many teams would be able to match that.Agree, though that means 2nd line Lorentz, which isn't necessarily terrible definitely better than 2nd line Martinook... 60 minutes to split up, to make the math simple I'm ignoring ST but yes that'll factor in. Target something like:
SAT: 19 min.
Lorentz/Tro/Necas: 17 min.
NN/JK/Jarvy: 12 min.
Marty/Staal/Fast: 12 min.

...but RBA hasn't done that at all since he got put down to the 4th line has he?He's better than Stepan, but Stepan is a pretty solid 4C option. That gives us the ability to play Kotkaniemi up in the lineup, where he can play more minutes with better linemates. And in turn it allows us to only need to play the 4th line 8 minutes a night, which keeps guys like Martinook and Lorentz in their lane.
Yeah though the one change I might make to that is Nino with Tro and Necas instead of Lorentz. Nino has actually been playing very well this year and while I understand his chemistry with Staal and Fast has been good I really think he needs to play with some more talent. Kotkaniemi and Jarvis is a step up but he may slot in better with Tro and Necas, and I'd rather see him playing more minutes than Lorentz.
